From Jayski: RPM Driver Brian Scott Announces Retirement: Richard Petty Motorsports and Brian Scott announced Scott, driver of the #44 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford, will retire from full-time competition in NASCAR at the end of the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Scott has made the personal decision to focus on his young and growing family and also the next phase of his career. Scott began competing in NASCAR's national series in 2007, debuting in the NASCAR Camping World Series. He competed full-time in that series in 2008 and 2009 and earned his first win at the Dover International Speedway in 2009.
"This was a difficult decision, but one that I made myself for my family," said Brian Scott. "Racing and specifically NASCAR has been and will always be in my heart, but right now, I want to turn all my attention to my family and to be able to spend more time with them. Racing has blessed me with great opportunities, and I'm very grateful for everything that it has allowed me to do, but for me, it's time to move on. I can't thank everyone enough who helped me in my career. I would not have made it to where I am at today without their trust and commitment."
"Brian made it to and competed at a level that very few do in NASCAR," said Brian Moffitt, Chief Executive Officer, Richard Petty Motorsports. "Brian became part of the Petty family this year, and he committed himself to making our organization better. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know Brian and wish him nothing but the best for him and his family."
RPM will continue to field the #44 Ford Fusion in 2017 with further announcements to be announced later.(Richard Petty Motorsports)(11-10-2016)

I'm very surprised. I thought he had a lot of potential. He is only 28. I wish him luck.

Wonder who fills the RPM seat next year?

That ride must be cursed. First Marcos, Now Brian. Both retired far too young.

Hate he cut his career short but he just gained a lot of respect from me for why he did. Best wishes for a great future for him.

I wonder what he is going to do now. I hope he has a plan.

Best wishes to him. It takes a big man to put career aside and put family first.

Hopefully RPM had plenty of notice so as to try and line up a new sponsor.

I don't think he brought any sponsors to RPM, did he? I don't recall seeing Shore Lodge on the 44, could be wrong though. Twisted Tea was there before him, I think Albertsons was too

The RPM ride was very much a pay-to-play deal, as were all the prior rides in Xfinity and trucks. The Albertson's cover was arranged by the family. In addition to the family owning Idaho, Scott's grandfather founded Albertsons.

Brian Scott is part of the Albertson family. He was a "pay to play" driver. Albertson's is leaving also.

Richard must be about ready to faint.lol

The potato money is leaving, but seriously I wish Brian the best. Seems like a nice guy and this year was a disappointment for him, but it just goes to show how much RPM needs to improve.

Also, it's a hell of a selfless move to put family over racing.

It is always a good thing when a man realizes his limitations and realizes it is time to move on. Most NASCAR drivers don't see the handwriting on the wall until it has almost faded away.

I very respectfully disagree as I think family always takes priority over work and if your work causes your family to suffer it is way past time to do something else.

That may well be Brian's motivation. I'm willing to accept him at face value.

But a lot of time phrases like "I want to turn all my attention to my family and to be able to spend more time with them." are code for "I've been offered the chance to quit / retire before I'm fired."

Beat me to it. Yeah, that's what you say when you publicly step down from a job no matter what. The Albertsons money was being pulled. I credit him for getting out in front of it and making what is probably a tough decision to classily step aside, but his prospects were few and far between. It's not as though Penske and Gibbs were competing for his services and he said "No, my kids need me at home."

He was totally respectable at the Xfinity level and seemed like a nice guy. I wish him well. Now let's ease up on the other "silver spoon kids" who actually do perform.

I can't tell you how many times a coach has said they want to spend more time with family, then take a new job a year later.

Or business executives, or government officials, or anything that requires you to announce publicly that you're quitting. People whose family consists of their fourth ex-wife, their crazy uncle who lives in the attic, two hookers, and a pet snake say that.

The statement even reads "...and also the next phase of his career". It's just PR 101 speak, it's fine. Hope he does well.

When the fabrication shop at Richard Petty Motorsports heard this news...

Instead of a Rocking Chair or a pony, they would give him a bag full of Albertson's groceries.

I would love to take the his reasoning at face value, but I do believe the Albertson's gravy train was coming to a stop.

Albertsons Companies Chief Marketing and Merchandising Officer Shane Sampson may be thinking the same thing.

Check Drudge Jayski.

Ain't that the truth as I know more than one person that went to work in the morning without a thought of leaving the job but by around noon they had decided to "pursue other opportunities." It is either resign and take a severance package or make us fire you and you will receive nothing.

Has anyone ever retired after their rookie season before? I'm pretty sure this is the first time but NASCAR been around a long time I could be wrong haha.
