SPEED talking about this race now, being the biggest race of the year.

My opinion of the Brickyard 400 has changed a lot over the years, I don't think this is a big deal anymore and the move to bring Nationwide diminishes the importance of the weekend.

Hold for poll...

Slightly better than just another race for me. That's only because of all of the hype. I'm sure for the drivers this is a huge race along with the payday.

Yeah, the whole 'hallowed ground' thing has run it's course with the fans. Now it's about the racing, which isn't very good by stock car standards.

I can't vote because you left out 'not even just another race. it's too boring to rate that high'.

It used to be a big race for me to watch, I think after the tire debacle year I lost a lot of interest in it as the second most important race of the year. The pay day and the prestige of racing at Indy is still high up there for the drivers though. I'm going to watch it today, probably take a nap in the middle, and switch back and forth between the race and the Red Sox game.:D

Agreed 100%. The track does not suit stock cars, and once that became clear, the novelty wore off. I never considered it to be on par with what the Daytona 500, Winston 500, World 600, or Southern 500 used to be. Just a cool opportunity for the bragging rights of winning at Indy. That obviously still exists, but without good racing, it stopped being interesting to me before the end of the 90s.

Mari Haulman George? Seriously, does she have a contract for the 'Gentleman Start Your Engines' command?

The last "bad" race I witnessed was the brickyard in 08. That was as much of a foul up as this past Kentucky race that left people stranded. Indy should have refunded everyones ticket cost in 08 and they didn't so I have not gone back.

I still love the racing at the brickyard though.

And Andy, the place holds a 1/4 of a million people, did you expect them to sell out?

At Indy she does, being the CEO of the place. Just be glad that they quit bringing out gramma Hulman.

But did you notice the lady behind her Looked like she belong at the Kentucky Derby.

The commentary of a barn burner thriller at Indianapolis:

Reba & Rascal Flatts. :beerbang:

Finally some good singers at a race!!

Time for a debris caution.

I hope I don't waste my day watching what turns out to be a fuel race

That Hope Solo chick is kind of hot.

Rascal Flatts was there? :D

LOL

Time for a debris caution.

Yep...

Tony George took what was the American F1-type series and turned it into a spec car race that has lost most of it's prestige. The days of A.J Foyt duelling it out with Johnny Rutherford and Andretti are long gone. The days of sitting out under a shade tree with my Dad sipping Iced Tea and listening to the "500" on the radio. Tony George is the Devil.

Now Indy is just another racetrack - the racing is right up there with Chicagoland.

But I'll still watch...and hope for Tony George to get Kidney Stones :p

GO SMOKE!!!! :beerbang::beerbang:

Harvick just ****ed Stewart

That penalty will either make or break Stewart. Most of the time when he is mad he goes on a holy terror.

Black flag Kyle Busch.

NEVERMIND -- NOT a penalty (someone on Twitter said he was). KYle got damaged on the caution he caused.

Actual attempt for a pass at speed for Bobby Labonte on Vickers - didn't work though - all back in line.

Junior getting hot

...and in reality TV news..there will be a new show with 43 Connestoga Wagons trudging from Kansas City to Denver - all pulled by Oxen.

They are calling it the Brickyard 400.
