Brickyard under the lights

Personally, I never cared that they put Indy on the schedule. And it seems there has been attempts to make that race the premier race of the series. And with NASCAR moving the NNWS to the big track, my opinion has gotten worse.

I'm pretty much of that same thought. I never really cared that they put it on the schedule either. No doubt, that track has a long history and is hallowed ground to auto racing. Just not NASCAR. From the time the announcement was made through today it's consistently being touted as one of the primer weekends on the schedule by all associated with NASCAR. That message certainly hasn't transferred to the fan base. The move of the Nationwide Series to the track was just another slap in the face to the avid fans of the sport. They had a reported attendance of 40,000 fans there for this years event. Last year @ IRP/ORP/LOR they had a reported attendance of 36,000. Was it worth it to move the race to the Brickyard for a gain of 4,000 fans? I guess next years attendance will tell the story.

Hey some people still don't have HD so I guess I shouldn't be at all surprised that some would eschew the convenience and efficiency of tabbed browsing.
I think HD would kill our tv. My parents got it as a wedding present....in 1984 IT WON'T DIE.

LOL
I don't think it's possible to even hook up an HD box to a TV that old. It at least needs to have component cable inputs. I ran an HD signal into a 197 Sony 27" a few years ago and it looked decent but still not close to HD.

Actually, most modern HD boxes can be hooked up to an old TV and can pick up HD channels. It makes no difference though.

Five people live at my house, and I'm the only one who watches anything in HD. One other guy has an HDTV but watches in standard def (which is like owning a DSLR and shooting with a cell phone) and everyone else has CRT televisions.

You can do it. I have one TV behind my game room bar that is an older TV hooked up to a HD DirecTV receiver. You are correct, component cables and a converter box is required to do the job. It still produces a great quality picture. It's HD overload inside and outside my house. Heck, even when my wife and I watch the race or Steelers game from our hot tub we watch it in HD.

I hooked my Xbox to it once (through the VCR)

VCR? What's a "VCR"?
My family adapts technology slowly, our estimated purchase of a blu- ray player should be about 2017. A VCR is what came before the DVD which is what came and before and in my view little different from a blu-ray

I don't think lights or anything else will help with the Cup/Nationwide races at Indy, it's just not a racey track for full bodied cars. Heck it's not really a racey track for the Indy cars that where designed to race there! The fans have watched and Not Enjoyed the racing there, Tradition and Legend only carries you so far the Fans want to see Good Racing!

And who evers idea it was to take the racing away from O'Reilly Raceway Park needs to be drug out back and Severely Beatin! That was Great Racing!

This will probably piss off some, but i think it is a really good idea. If they want to keep IMS on schedule they need to get with Indy car. Move the Indy 500 back to Memorial Day, and race the 400 the day before on Sunday. Drop Charlotte to one date and move the 600 to the october date. Give Iowa the IMS August date.

I love this idea!

Giving a race to Iowa that is... :D

Drop a Charlotte race? Since Charlotte is the logistical center of NASCAR's universe I don't think CMS will ever be losing a race.

Why not just move the all star ? race to the Friday night before the 600. Then you keep all three Charlotte races and also open up a date for a points race.

The entire week between the All Start event and the 600 is all about NASCAR. They have the street festival and the teams like being at home for those couple of weeks as well.

Personally I'd rather they canned the All Star race altogether. IMO every Cup race is All Star event. Go to Iowa instead.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you REALLY like Iowa, noticing a pattern there. I'd love to see a cookie cutter track or Indy lose a date to a short track. I think NASCAR has really stretched these big venues and needs to reel it back in. Texas, Charlotte, Atlanta didn't make me a fan. Bristol, Martinsville, The Rock, North Wilkesboro did.

I am going to ask the question again. Have you ever been to Charlotte? I absolutely love the All Star race and the track is a super venue.

No. The whole Charolette / Iowa thing has been beaten to death, so I thought I would liven things up a little.

I went a couple of months ago. I like the track (although the aero push is bad) and the city a great deal. I thought the All-Star race sucked. I feel like it's become a glorified testing session. But I loved the truck race.

What's not to like about track at Iowa? IMO it's a perfect blend of short track and speedway racing with multiple grooves. Easy to pass and there isn't a bad seat in the house.

Amen. Preach it, GP99!

I enjoy Iowa also. Never been but the racing is pretty good.

I have a better idea for a night race at Indianapolis. Race the Cup cars at IRP.

Hell yes!

Don't understand the Charlotte hate, of the 3 quad ovals (others Atlanta and Texas) Charlotte and Atlanta are by far the best while Texas is the worst.

Atlanta used to consistently put on great shows. Now, it's rare. Texas sucks, always has sucked, always will suck. Charlotte... I don't know, I think THREE races a year is too two many.

These big tracks, they just don't turn anyone on man. Like others said, people fell in love with the sport because of races like North Wilkesboro, old Bristol, Martinsville, North Wilkesboro and Rockingham. Tracks like Chicago just don't do the trick.

Oh I don't argue that most races on any other type of track are better, But to me those 3 tracks are the best of the mile and a halfs Chicago Kansas Kentucky and California are by far the worst.

There should be no more than one race at the current tracks they run on IMO. Two races at any one track is one too many. Open up the other weekends to other tracks. Put a weekend in at the Rock, Iowa, IRP, Road Atlanta, Your Choice, etc.....

Give the winner a million bucks but also 30 cup points, just for winning, no other points and watch a race break out for sure, that would be a blast. :D

I'm not gettin your point about the 30 points . If Jimmy Johnson has the best prepared car and runs away from everyone , he should get 30 cup points too?

But they would have to catch him (or nail him as he comes by to lap them).
Nope, it would be a helluva race no matter who got the pole because they start and restart side by side and for 30 points and a million bucks all hell would break loose, 3 cars left running at the checkers, maybe.

At Charlotte ,most of the cars aren't in the same time zone as Jimmy , I don't think that he needs an extra 3o points.:D
