Bruton Smith strongly considering moving fall Charlotte race

Why not? It would put a stop to owners buying tracks and removing their dates for other tracks they would rather have on the schedule.

Then again, I suppose Texas wouldn't have two dates.

If NASCAR set the schedule, each ISC track would have 3 dates and Bruton would have his own sanctioning body.

I know Las Vegas supports the track, but how good are they going to support it with 2 races a year? I think the best bet is to find some new venues, some more suitable for racing then these cookie cutters 1.5 mile tracks too.

Almost every track that has gone from 1 date to 2 has had attendance sink. I agree, time for new tracks. Iowa, Portland, COTA, Daytona Infield, .....

attendance sink per race, not the two together. wikipedia says capacity at LVMS is 142,000. Even if both races only filled 80,000 each that is still 160,000 for the year over just the 142,000.

I would hate for another track in the Carolinas to lose a date but the attendance at CMS has been bad the last few years. The Oct race is football season in these parts, Nascar is an after thought

I don't think the fall race draws that much worse than the 600. There was alot of empty seats last weekend. As someone mentioned previously, that the Panthers got all that public money for stadium upgrades probably isn't sitting too well with Bruton.

Agree with some others in that I wouldn't be too surprised if the All-Star race got moved to Vegas.

That
Good question.

Bruton and the guy who used to own New Hampshire bought North Wilkesboro just so they could reassign its two Cup dates to their own tracks. Seems NASCAR gives SMI wide latitude on their venues.
"Guy" would be Bob Bahre. And NASCAR has the final.say, not track owners..

Agree with its football season but it aint the Panthers crowd. They cant fill their own stadium right now. Most likely the Saturday crowd. college football fans.

Everyone like to blame the lack of attendance on other sports. Those other sports have been around forever, even when NASCAR was at its height in popularity. The simple answer is NASCAR is not as possible as it once was.

Does that make it impossible? :D

That's the kind of crap that happens when you try to post to quickly. I haven't had too much time to be on here recently. My daughter's AAU basketball season wraps up today so I'll be missing yet another race. This week I've missed the truck, Nationwide races as well as lights night's Penguins game but that's okay, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Priorities, buddy, all the right priorities, it's commendable. :D :booya::cheers:

SIAP, but Charlotte will keep 2 Cup races for at least 2014

INDIANAPOLIS Apparently the Las Vegas odds were not that good after all.

NASCAR confirmed on Friday the deadline has come and gone without receiving a formal request from Speedway Motorsports Inc. owner Bruton Smith to move one of his Sprint Cup Series race dates from Charlotte Motor Speedway to Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the 2014 season.

In May, Smith told WBTV in Charlotte there was “a 70 percent chance” he’d move Charlotte’s fall Cup race to the track he owns in Las Vegas.

I honestly wouldn't care either way. It would suck for people who go to CMS, but I if it lost a date I wouldn't mind. However, if he did pull a date from CMS I'd like to see him give that date to Sonoma.

I don't think Bruton was serious, either. Just playing chicken over whatever tax dispute he had with Concord.
