Bubba Wallace Jr. to Roush Fenway Racing?

I know some will feel like I am flip flopping, but the fact is that Bubba didn't get good until this year. He was wildly inconsistent in '13. He had a big year, and felt that he was entitled to a year of Xfinity. JGR and Toyota disagreed while Roush and Ford complied. I do not buy that sponsorship was the only factor at play in limiting a Bubba to the possibility of a partial schedule at JGR. I think he felt slighted. Good-bye.

Yep, something funny going on for sure, a little time spent with Rousch will do him good and who knows their nationwide program may improve for next year, look at JRM

Which is pretty much the norm for any driver competing in their first full national series season.

He progressed a lot this year; it's evident that he has the raw pace. It's easier to develop consistency than it is speed.

No question, but the media would have you believe that the guy is a lock. I disagree. Plenty of work yet to be done. Regardless, my point was that Bubba felt he was entitled to a full time Xfinity ride, and he got one. Not really trying to be judgmental or anything.

He did bring in sponsorships at one time ?
If you knock on enough doors long enough you will find a sponsor, however RFR never brought in any big sponsors
in over 5 years. They have never been able to replace the big sponsors they had. Matt drove the same car every
year ( Dewalt ) and at the end they couldn't sponsor him?????? Is 3M gone now as well?

Yeah, 3M is going to sponsor Gordon in a few races.

I would have liked him to be with another owner but glad he go a ride....

I get the feeling that RFR is sinking ship.

Don't know that we'll ever get the full story (it's likely to soon to tell it ) , but I don't recall hearing any good news from RFR since they merged with Fenway . Maybe someone else can point to something.

quite popular to dog pile on the Roush is a sinking ship after a bit of a downturn..really not that much if you look at the statistics, they have never been what you would call a powerhouse, but pretty consistently have been in the top ten over the years. But right now I can't even look at Stenhouse without wanting to bitch slap him, and give moon unit Baine a shaken baby syndrome wake up call. If either of those two win a race next year I will eat my big plate of crow. The Roush boys have their work cut out for them. one thing for sure, Bubba isn't going to be laying down in that Ford. If it will run, he will be in the front pack. Chris Beuscher did a fine job last year for Roush in a Nationwide car. Won a race and finished high in the points despite missing Daytona.

As long as they are on the track they will get my support. If Roush leaves the series that will put Ford in a deep hole as far as Nascar. There are so few teams now, it's almost one sided.

IMO it's not the drivers, it their cars... they have been behind the 8 ball ever since the COTs and have never been able to catch up.. Prior to that, they where like you said "pretty consistent" especially on the cookie cutter tracks. For Bubba's sake as well as Ricky and Trevor I hope they figure it out

side note - look out for the Murder Nova to make a come back this season

FTR I wasn't intending to "dog pile" on RFR. While I am not an RFR fan I recognize that it's good for the sport for them to be competitive. My comment was just based on the fact that they have lost their best drivers and have replaced them with what I consider to be sub-par in terms of Cup talent. Perhaps I'll be proven wrong, it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Question: RFR has been the home of Ford for many years and since they haven't done much since Jack sold to Fenway, do you think Ford would fare better under Penske as the main supplier of equipment to lesser teams.
Now that Wood Bros. has turned to Penske, this maybe the road Ford will take.

At this point I would have to agree. Penske would be the better choice. The only issue I see with that is loyalty and Jacks input and design on Ford parts. Jack has been solidly in Fords corner forever. He has supported them in good times and bad. Additionally he has been the designer of many of Fords racing parts for a long time now. Penske being fairly new again to Ford shows Penske as not as loyal. Penske does have the ability to produce engines but it would be a change that could adversely effect all Fords for a short time. As it stands Ford engines are winning races with Roush at the helm.

All that said, if Jack does not turn his team around I see them going the way of Yates who was once also a powerhouse in the Ford Engine business. If this happens look for Penske to take over.

Yeah, I remember that Penske was bitching about the lack of cooperation from Roush the first year they came over from Dodge. Penske wasn't good the first year they switched but they were improving towards the end of the year. The Fords had a promise from Nascar to be able to make some changes to the front end of the cars and that helped. Ford also came to the party with some tech data, and tried to get both Roush and Penske to cooperate with each other. Don't know how well that went. I don't think Jack likes to do much sharing.

Side note : Murder Nova..I hear that.

A year or 2 ago, I had suggested that Penske might supplant Roush as the premier flagship Ford team. I was quickly laughed at and brushed aside as an afterthought.

After 2014, given the performance of both organizations and the smaller teams switching alliances, I'd say it's quickly coming to fruition.

The stumbling block will be Roush's proprietary control over the parts and pieces. Penske won't be able to take that from him unless he gives up control, or if Ford cuts off his funding/support. Perhaps the RFR race team will fade into obscurity like Yates did, but as long as he has his patents and Ford is content to keep him involved then he won't be going anywhere. Perhaps that will be Jack's legacy, as a builder/supplier to Ford teams. If his race operations fail completely, he still has his retail/commercial interests within the sport.

Yates did not fade into obscurity. Yates contributed to 14 Cup wins in 2014.

I don't want to see RFR leave the sport and I think as far as Jack's business dealing with Ford go, I see no reason for any of that to change.
The Roush/Yates engines are fine and Penske's 11 wins this year prove that. RFR poor showing is in their set ups and has been for a number of years. Now they have under performing drivers that I don't think will help the situation. IMO

Roush main problems seem to lie in chassis set up. Carl was sorta fast last year and on more than one occasion he was leading or running well only to have the handling give up. Engines don't seem to be the issue at this time.

RFR needs to finally find higher quality people period. They compounded that problem however with subpar drivers. They have Bubba in the pipeline so maybe that problem will be fixed soon. I'm reserving judgment on Buescher because even Stenhouse looked good in Nationwide.

Honestly, Yates's last lineup was Travis Kvapil and David Gilliland. I'm not sure that Stenhouse and Bayne are THAT much better honestly.

Are you talking about young Doug or the old man?
