Hell, honestly a win being encumbered for a guy not running for the championship doesn't hurt him. It hurts the team, but not him.
 
I'm with the "Onion" about penalties. You get caught cheating you lose it all period. encumbering is a weak kneed move in that direction. The days of hardly any communication about a race but a blip on the sports page the next day, and the only people who could talk about it were people who went to the race or read the newspaper or circle track mag? Those days are long gone. No points, no money, no cucumber..
 
I want to as a fan feel that the winner of the race won fair and square. The cheating has reached a level that almost every week there is a cucumber. All too often mega teams take the money and a slap on the wrist for a win, they aren't there for the points anyway. IMO it forces some of the smaller teams to cheat to keep up. Sure some will cheat anyway, but take it all across the board, mega teams and little guys.

hell the other truck they dinged had two violations, the weight wasn't right and too low. Both of those are serious cheating issues also. They start keeping the money and then fine them they might start paying better attention to the rule books

I agree. If you race an illegal car you should be DQ'd. What's to stop someone from bringing an illegal car to Homestead? I got an encumbered win but NASCAR didn't take all my points away, and because I won stages or scored stage points, I won the championship.

Well at homestead it's still the best finisher overall I believe

Boy I don't really know either bud, but I think of the final four the best finisher is the champ.

How do you know that the holes didn't make the difference? A legal truck may not have been able to make that move.

Because the driver made the difference. Holes didn't seem to help earlier in the race as he didn't dominate it. Guy made a hell of a move to win the race.

I wouldn't waste your breath, he will have a million reasons to justify cheating. I'm sure he will find away to pardon the 8th place truck that was cheating also..they were going so slow it didn't count.o_O:rolleyes:

What are they talking about? Did the team drill new holes during a pit stop? Did they change the bed cover and Nascar didn't see it? This is all BS. If the truck was not legal why did they let it starts the race? This BS is getting so ridiculous it makes you wonder if any of the management are capable of thinking. OR this is NASCAR's way of collecting funds for their charity program.

Everyone is in the race, but the final 4 are racing each other, no points, no stage points, no bonus points of any kind. Whoever finishes highest of them 4 is your champion.

I just don't see this stuff as cheating. Anyone could put some extra holes in their truck. If it gains speed let them do it in my opinion.

They found the truck was over weight so they drilled out some metal to lighten it.:D

It violates the rules; how is it not cheating?

You may feel that the rule should be changed or eliminated. I certainly do. But it doesn't matter how you or I see it. Until a change is made, it's cheating.

Yeah, I think most the time rules are dumb, let teams find speed.

Nothing would stop a team from doing this and NASCAR would probably keep it under wraps.

I could be misremenbering (again!) but I thought the four championship contenders had a special pre-race inspection procedure for Homestead to prevent that. Don't those four have to go to the R&D Center before the race, or something like that? I'm sure that would not be a perfect guarantee, but it is something, IIRC.

Probably all four would be illegal, it would take them a month to decide which one was less illegal than the other. :D They are at the highest level of cheating in motorsports.
 
NASCAR is the only sport that I know of that is scared to change its stance on disqualifying its competitors for cheating.

As far as Bubba's win goes, I doubt he cares about it being "encumbered"! All that matters is that he got a W one way or another. :laugh:
