So with the rule that rookie of the year winners will be in the Bud Shootout this year it puts Kevin Conway in the race:rolleyes:

So pretty much everyone is invited to this thing now I guess.

Give me a break, next thing you know theyll make a rule making Danica elegible for the Shoot-OFF. Hey let's suit up Brad Daurghty and let him race too!:sarcasm:

Soo stupid, they've taken all the glory out of this event. The first Shootout I ever saw was the 91 race & back then it was previous season pole winners only & winning it really meant something. Now, with all these other drivers being invited I mean past Daytona points race winners, C'mon man. It's garbage, NASCAR has completely messed the whole deal up. It should just be a 20 lap sprint for previous season's pole winners, period. NASCAR also messed up by allowing the whole sponsor thing get out of hand, Ok so Coors Light sponsors season pole awards & Budweiser sponsors the shootout. Why don't they go back to using Unocal 76 at the Shootout only, makes sense to me. So far the only thing that they've (NASCAR) done right in the last 5 years is make the cars capable of being looked at again, this years Cup car is a huge improvement from the yuk yuk Family Truckster Brickwagons that started last years Daytona 500. Other than that, ur messin up Brian...

Nascar continues to go down this route, the reason being Money. Once again the greed of the coporate giant which is Nascar, gets in the way of the actual racing.

Yep this one is so a bigger ***** pill can make the show?

Well, they can't really have a race named for Budweiser that features the Coors award winners, now can they? But, they do need to come up with something better that "hey, if you sneezed better than another guy one time in the past, you're in" thing that they have now.

But at least they got rid of the stupid 4 cars from each maunfacturer thing from a few years ago.

Don't forget, John Andretti, Ken Schrader and Derrike Cope are eligible to race as well.

I really don't understand why you say these sort of things. What has allowed all of us to actually watch and enjoy any of NASCAR? Greed? You seem to think that it's NASCAR that is getting all the money. Take a look at the drivers and team owners. It takes a whole lot of money to run any race in the top three series and when you have to rely on a sponsor to make the payments, you have to do what THEY want. If you want to talk about greed, you have to include everyone, not just NASCAR.

Last I knew everyone of those sponsors pays Na$car a fee for the "privilege" of being a sponsor. More if they want to be the official supplier. Na$car not only approves sponsors but also the paint scheme.

Every souvenir manufacturer pays fees also.

Na$car isn't getting all the money, just a very good chunk.

As I said, last I knew. If it's changed let me know.

Yeah I know but at least those guys care about racing as they've proven in the past. The Extenze thing was never about racing, only getting the sponsor on tv. That car was/is nothing more than just a moving billboard.

Kind of like franchising isn't it? If you want to open a McDonalds, you gotta pay for that privilege. Also, c'mon down and I'll show you Richard Childress little shack. Haven't seen Rick Hendricks pad, but I'm sure Richard doesn't have anything that Rick doesn't have. How about Roger Penske? Joe Gibbs? Then there are the drivers. Have you seen any of the places that Jeff Gordon owns/owned? I'm sure you have heard of Whisky River? How about Tony Stewart who owns a famous race track? NASCAR has of course made the Frances some of the wealthiest people in America, but it has also been pretty good for many other people.

At this point with no racing going on, I don't care if they let a winning crew chief into the shoot out. I just want to see cars back on the track.

Preseason testing starts the 20th I believe and the shootout is the 12th so it won't be long.

My invitation just came in the mail to participate in the 2011 Bud Shootout! Anyone else? :D

Boy, I can not wait to see Geoff Bodine & Derrike Cope battling it out to see who can start & park first! As much as I've always looked forward to this race to kick off the season, I think it's time has run it's course. They may as well just let everyone run for some cash and extra drafting practice.

Nascar dictates it, the drivers bask in it, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the drivers taking advantage of the $$. Nascar has ruined the sport, they are the coporation, conglomorate, whatever you want to call them that benefit the most from all of it when it is said and done. They have made it so that it is mandatory to have multi car teams in order to be competitive, mandatory to have huge sponsor dollars in order to compete in full season. Of course I understand all the money it takes to race, I grew up around racing, I understand fully well what it costs just to get a car out on the local track, never mind at the Cup level. IMO the Frances grew the sport too big too quickly, now they suffer the consequences.

Great news everyone!

1990 Daytona 500 winner Derrike Cope will be running the 2011 Budweiser Shootout in the # 64 Toyota Camry for Larry Gunselman of MaxQ Motorsports. Cope says he hopes to have a sponsor for the race and announce it soon. Cope's plans for the Daytona 500 are still up-in-the air.

Wow..... and as an added bonus possibly the Daytona 500 too!

hope he brings his twin nieces with him if he does the 500. we need more family racers out there. <g> they'd also have a better chance of winning.

Yeh this race is a joke, I'll probably watch some of it if it doesn't start too late, I'm usually asleep by 9:30pm.

Better chance of doing a porn movie you mean.....:D

“I had several bottles to choose from still but Mike Helton kept pointing at the third from the left, so it really was just the luck of the draw,” Dale Jr said after winning Bud Pole draw.

Oh yeah, it's rigged. ;)

OK, OK..... So I may have embellished his statement somewhat but I know that's probably what many think.

Now that is funny...

Was it just me or did Jr seem a little distant?

I can understand Nascar wanting more cars in this race, but maybe a top 20 rule from last years points standings and winners of this event from the past five years would be better. At least all of them would be racing and not just looking for a paycheck.
I,m convinced that a car that is 20 plus mph slower than the rest of the field will simply start and park. If not they will just get in the way.

I totally agree. That's a much better solution and it's simple.

OK, it means nothing, and just about everyone gets in. But, it's still the first race of the year. Unfortunately I can't watch it until later (not sure how late), so don't tell me who won:D

(note to self...don't look at Facebook this evening...)

Because he was rookie of the year in 2007 or 2008, can't remember which year.

We'll I guess next years criteria will include leading a lap during the season and your in the shoot-off!
