Spent all week getting the front suspension sorted out. Flaming River makes the "Ford Pinto" rack... which you then cut 8" off each tierod and weld on promod-style extensions that are 3" shorter than the "pinto" dimensions. That was a learning moment.
Then the toe-in battle. We spent 3 days going back and forth with the tie rods and steering wheel trying to get everything straight. Problem is that our road is heavily crowned, so it was a bunch of gambling guesses.
Got to the track this morning and played with it some more. Got the tope and bump-steer cleaned up, but the wheel is about 60 degrees left of center. but it went straight, so that's a weekday issue.
Plan was to make a 300ft squirt to make sure there was no vibration. But there was a bunch of delays, so decided to just leg it out if it felt good. Plus the place was PACKED.
It felt good so dad went all the way. We were concerned about air catching in the door hinge pockets or under the 1" lip of the windshield. But everything held good and it made for the fastest pass the truck has made - by alot. What that tells us is that the engine is severely starved for air with the body on...an experiment for later.
