Roush Racing announced today that Kurt Busch has advised team officials that he has signed with another team commencing in 2007. The name of the team is not known. Kurt also requested a release from his contract for 2006. Due to sponsor and team considerations no decision on that request will be made for an indefinite period. Roush Racing will have no further comment at this time.(Roush Racing PR), could be the #2 Penske Racing team, but what about.(8-9-2005)

Man there is some odd ball stuff going on this year. I am sure just about everyone in the garage was thrown off guard with this one.

Not until 2007 though. Rusty and Mark will be begged to drive another year. Sheesh.

i think that will happen. either that or they will get some shmuck to drive the 2 car for a year.

I liked Kurt until last year---he got too slick and glib-----the new breed of youngsters has no idea of what loyalty is---just another nail in the coffin of a once grand sport. Sponsors and car manufacturers are gonna start taking notice---- ;)

My guess is Bush"s going to either the #2 or #15, more than likely the #2. As a side note, I bet there was some huge money involved. Do you think Kurt was pissed about Jamie coming over too?

i dont no what to say
i dont like kurt or roush so i dont no

And who is going to replace Kurt? Ricky Craven, Ricky Rudd, Kenny Wallace?

Kenny Wallace would be a good pick :)

I bet Kurts going to DEI, not Penske.

Penske it will be!
Reigning Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch has signed with Penske Racing South to replace retiring driver Rusty Wallace in its No. 2 Dodges, Penske and Roush Racing announced Tuesday.

Here is the rest of the original story that was apparently left off:

but what about 2006 if Busch can't break his contract? Sources tell me it is for Penske Racing and hopes are that Busch will be able to buy out his contract and run the #2 Miller Lite Dodge in 2006. Odd that Rosuh is now in the same position that their signing of Jamie McMurray put Ganassi Racing in, as McMurray was signed by Roush to drive the #6 Ford for Roush in 2007, but hopes to get out of his contract to drive the car in 2006. Current driver of the #2 Miller Lite Dodge is Rusty Wallace, who is retiring and says he will not unretire and come back in 2006, unlike #6-Mark Martin who is also retiring BUT has agreed to run one more year if McMurray is not let out of his contract with Ganassi, which also runs thru 2006. Hard enough keeping up with what is happening next week let along in 2007, interesting trend we have going here. Looks like the new way of trying to get out of a contract.(8-9-2005)

It just keeps getting better..From Thatsracin.com:

Less than two hours after Roush said Busch signed with another team for 2007 and asked to be released from his 2006 obligations, Penske Racing released a one-sentence statement saying it had signed Busch "to a multi-year contract to drive for the team beginning with the 2007 season."

he has signed with Penske South Racing..... I bet Matt Kenseth is going with DEI in 2007

whoa...what the hell is going on this year...big name drivers jumping ship? wow...this was surprising.......Roush racing is going to look a lot different.

All this back room dealing without even a rumor? WOW!!!!

I wonder what happened to honesty, values and honoring one's contract?
Sorry, but I don't understand. There seems to be no more honor except among theives. JMO

I see your point, BUT I have a sneaking feeling that it's more than that.

It now appears that there are 3 openings for drivers. DEI, JGR, and Roush will all have openings either this year or next.....oh yeah, and Ganassi. I would like to see Mikey get the JGR opening. I would think that there will be heavy pressure put on Rusty and Mark to run another season. Silly season is early and in full form.

BTW, is it a mistake for Busch to make the announcement in the middle of the "Chase"?

Ganassi will go Toyota before Penske will.

i could see Penske going to Toyota...i mean hell they have used Pontiacs, Fords, and Dodges...why not make another change?

I'm lov'in it..........Wonder Ears off to Penske and taking over the ole #2 ride at that, next up...............Matt The Man Kenseth heading out the door next!

Not saying Penske wouldn't go Toyota. Just saying that Ganassi will before Penske. :D

Did Toyota ever show the car that they will be bring out, to Na$car?

Rumor has it that Roush is going to sign Tony to replace Busch.

Only kidding :):)

Owners have always done this, it's nothing new . The drivers are just getting smart and doing the same thing. Going for the buck!!!! I think we would all do the same thing if offered enough.

I know you were kidding, but I wouldn't be surprised to see something big go down. That 97 is a strong ride. There's more to it than driver alone! All the movement is not complete!

I think they oughta keep the jap crap outta "the all-american sport".
Just my opinion, though.
I know you're waiting for this so I suppose I'll supply you with the following, with many thousand employees who will disagree with you strongly.

Toyota, USA...

Georgetown, KY - Camry, Avalon, Solara, 4 cylinder engines and V6 engines

Buffalo, WV - 4 cylinder engines and V6 engines

Erlanger, KY - Production control, engineering, quality control and administration of North American plants

Huntsville, AL - V8 engines

San Antonio, TX - Tundra pickups

Troy, MO, St. Louis, MO, and Madison County, TN - Intake manifolds, cylinder heads, cylinder blocks and more

Princeton, IN - Tundra, Sequoia, and Sienna

Long Beach, CA - Truck beds and other, catalytic converters and more

Freemont, CA - Corolla, Tacoma, Voltz (for export to Japan) and Pontiac Vibe

If you have a Chevy truck, you might want to check what country that was made in. Could have been the US, but also maybe in Canada, or for God's sake, Mexico. Those foreign named autos are now being made right here in the good old USA...even those wonderfully made German cars. Oh, and before you say that while that might be true, but where is the money going? I'd say there is a pretty big payroll going right here in the good old USA. But how about that plant in Freemont making a car that is for export only? Do you wonder if the Japanese people consider that Toyota is a foreign car?

Sorry for the thread drift...

I thought I'd seen everything, but this move by Kurt just blows my socks off.

NASCAR will just have to scrap numbers and put the drivers' names on the door so we'll know who is in what. LOL
