Camaro to compete in NASCAR Nationwide series

Has Jack gone whining to naScar for consessions for his Mustangs yet? It's not official until he byitches about other manufacturers having a unfair advantage. I'm just sayin'.

I LIKE IT!!

Pony Car Wars can now begin in earnest!
Well, except for the four-door, front-wheel-drive Toyota Camry that is...

Yay!!! This is great news! I've been hoping the Camaro would come in to compete with the Challenger and Mustang ever since I started following the series.

Okay, I've only been following the series since the beginning of the year, so it hasn't been long, but still.

Toyota doesn't have a sports car. They focus on building reliable cars that actually run for more than five years..... like my Corolla that would still be running if a jackwagon didn't smash in to it at 45 mph.

Good move. Should have done this from the start.

Now the next announcement is the new SS, to see what the thing really looks like.

Come to think of it, even the nose doesn't look like a Camaro. The only thing that resembles a Camaro is the Chevy decal :lol2:

If NASCAR wants people to actually talk about their "pony wars", they should move away from the spec cars (where the only difference between a Camaro and Mustang is the decal on the front nose) and actually let the manufacturers build cars that look like the street version of said car.

That would mean more than one template, and that seems to be too much work.

Seems to me that people are talking about it already...two posts in and Jack Roush is already taking heat. Should we also pile it on Penske so Dodge doesn't feel neglected or let him slide 'til next year ;)

They have to stay with one template. I recall in the 90s the teams were always complaining about manufacturers areo advantage. If they were to go back to stock bodies sooner or later someone will reintroduce the Superbird.

So true, Zerk! And Welcome!
NA$$CAR had a hell of a time with trying to undo the aero advantages that the manufacturers introduced.

Losey guidelines caused most of the problems, IMO. It starts with just 2,000 models sold to qualify for nascar, at a time when manufacturers had 3 or 4,000 dealerships. That's how the Superbird came to be.

TOYOTA should petition NA$$CAR for permission to enter THIS in the Nationwide Series:

It may be a $375,000 LEXUS - but it's still a TOYOTA, right??

How cool would it be to see scaled up (or down) versions of todays cars on the track? A few bolt on aero do-dads to balance things out, slow the cars a little so aero isn't as important, and go racing.

Hint.... it will look like a generic Cup Car.

Yeh you know ai think they just don't want to be bothered with the teams bitching about who has the advantage and who doesn't. That was the fun of it IMO, seeing a Buick outrun a Ford that was supposed to have the aero advantage. Nascar intentionally makes it boring.

Same here. The controversy and sniping at the other name plates created a lot of drama. Now we are rooting for an engine package. Perhaps Brian can roll out the glass hoods for real name plate excitement!

There's no brand identity then add in they seem to have a new paint job every week. It's getting difficult to find "your" driver.

Can't wait to see the Volt in Cup.

Or the Tesla, what I want to know why Tesla can make an electric car that goes form 0-60 in 4 seconds and has a range of 300 miles on a charge and Chevy can only manage 40 miles on a charge?? I know that is way off subject, but just bothers me....lol:D

Welcome Zerkfitting , good post, hope to hear from you often.:D

Anybody know at what speed aero ceases to be important ?

It created a lot of drama alright. Everybody was accusing Nascar of favouring whichever brand had the aero advantage that week . Personally I would rather not go back to all that bickering and infighting .Those were terrible times .But everyone seems to have selective memory loss. So 'boys have at it' .
