Camaro to compete in NASCAR Nationwide series

It created a lot of drama alright. Everybody was accusing Nascar of favouring whichever brand had the aero advantage that week . Personally I would rather not go back to all that bickering and infighting .Those were terrible times .But everyone seems to have selective memory loss. So 'boys have at it' .
But it was alot more fun when your brand won.:D

Not me. I quickly forget everything you post. :p

Anybody know at what speed aero ceases to be important ?

My guess would be 0 to 45 MPH????? anything over that I think aero plays a part in some way.

MH, you know them formula car wings? I know know b/c I've layed hands on them and watched the CFD, but they optimize at 45, stall at 60, and create an incrediable amount of drag by 70. 2009 or 10 we had a car break the rear wing off. Onboard data said the car was going 75...they think the wing's drag force exceeded the mounting provision's holding force.

I remember somewhere that they said when they added the spoiler to the VW bug, it added 100 pounds of downforce at 60 MPH.

Why were they terrible times? We had cars that actually looked like cars you would see on the street. We had more actual racing. We had more innovation. The CCs were able to do more with the cars. Just because we had bickering between brands it was bad? That's what made it good and of course we had brand loyalty amongest the fans.

The folks at Chevy are the best at keeping secrets. I'm on a number of web sites along with Twitter every day and did not see one thing about this news and announcement coming at all. Even one NASCAR writer mentioned that on Twitter yesterday. Besides, I'm waiting to see the race and street version of the new SS.

The part of the Camaro that gives it a great deal of its identity is the side rear windows. The NNS car fails in that regard. But still, I am glad Camaro is finally in the NASCARs.

I think that 'B' pillar has an awful lot to do with safety so I'm not sure there's much of a choice when it comes to altering that look.

Decals work on TV, I can identify the different manufacturers. I remember seeing real "stock" bodied NASCARs before the COT and thought they looked pretty different from real cars. They did look closer to the cars on the street than the COT but you can't go back. If you want real stock cars, watch the Continental series.

My suggestion now is to make the B-pillar the same color as the windows. Maybe make it look like one big window? I'm a tad let down by the look (maybe because the 2013 cup cars that have been revealed so far look great), but still glad the Camaro will finally be in the Nationwide series.

Sitting in Macky Ds with the lap top, wife rode around the brickyard today in a Camaro Convertible with 2 other people and driven by Danica Patrick with tickets that I managed to get her, flew around the track. Updates tomorrow. They spent 30 minutes chatting together.

Very cool. Why didn't you sit in the back seat and keep saying "Danica, make a left right here"?

Now, that is cool! Pics please.

Looks kinda IROC-ish, but in a good way.
I know this Chevy guy will be pulling for it to move up to the Cup series soon.
