anyone with car knowledge have a clue as to what happened?

saw this morning at the local coffee shop. had to call 911. buddy used like 4 fire extinguishers on it

ABC extinguishers will not do much for a car fire. You almost have to have a CO2 extinguisher.

I keep a 5 pound ABC in the race truck, since it doesn't have inner fenders I can spray it in the engine compartment with the hood closed, which would hopefully snuff it out enough. I'd like to have a CO2 one next to it at some point.

NHRA uses FireAde Foaming Agent extinguishers.

At one point in time a gas leak, even a minuscule one was the #1 cause of under hood fires. Now with all the electrical components under the hood an electrical short is just a likely to be the cause. In either case once a plastic piece catches it's Good Night Irene.

There are engineering firms insurance companies hire if they suspect arson and they will do a forensic exam to determine the cause.

heres a question....was there an explosion hazard with the fire upfront like that?

Tires ''pop'' when burnt through, might seem like an explosion but no danger. Hollywood has framed it so any car on fire will explode in a massive fireball.
