Chicago #3 Pre-Race Thread

Anybody know if the City of Chicago will maintain the numerous street closures and let them run the race on Monday if it gets rained out on Sunday ?

For 10 years the team I worked on was in Chicago, but I lived in California so I would fly in to get the hauler, and I can't remember when it wasn't raining when I landed at O'Hare... except for the first race of the year and the last race of the year that was in California and it would be snowing in Chicago when I landed. I couldn't get to the shop and on the road heading back to the Westcoast fast enough.:D Speaking of haulers, they have arrived in Chicago.

Guess I should have checked here first.

Still not clear if they would race on Monday.

The City doesn't like to shutting down those streets downtown any longer than absolutely necessary

I mean, thunderstorms are the big concern. As long as it’s nit a deluge of rain, they should theoretically be able to race Sunday.

Goodyear Fast Facts — Chicago Street Course

This weekend’s Chicago Street Race marks the third road course on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, with the field racing on the same Goodyear Racing Eagle tires used earlier this season at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) and Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez (Mexico City). The tire, which was introduced at COTA, has a different compound and construction than what was used in Chicago last year.

“We’ve been very encouraged by what we saw from the Cup Series road course tire at COTA and Mexico City,” said Stu Grant, Goodyear general manager of global race tires. “Our goal was to create a road course tire with more wear and fall-off, and we’ve seen just that.”

Both series will have wet weather tires available in the case of inclement weather. In addition to the tread difference, these tires feature white “Goodyear Eagle” lettering on the sidewalls instead of the traditional yellow.

So it's going to rain all weekend and I'm bored enough to see if I have TruTV. Turns out I do, and the first thing I see is someone named Chloe shoving her oversized rump in my face, trying in vain to get me to buy Spandex tights. That was almost enough to send me to Lifetime.

Gods help me, I might even get bored enough to look at F1 tomorrow.

Hambone spins out in his own leaking fluid, halfway through his first lap. No external damage but engine issues

Losing a lot of practice time cleaning up.

Works better than my deal. I jump thru all the hoops to "join" Tru TV and it doesn't give me access.

WeatherBug is now forecasting 40% chance of 100% light rain during Sunday's race. 🌧️

The forecast was something like 50% to 60% chance of rain earlier.

Bubba spins on his first lap early in the session, then does it again late and backs into the tires. Was top 5 in practice, but last of those who made Q runs.

Senior Moment Alert:

When I first read "Today's Race Details" and saw "Avg time of race: 3:00:00 est." I thought that "est." referred to Eastern Standard Time and wondered why race lengths were different depending on where you lived. :owquitit:

That's why west coast races are 3 hours longer.
