Clash RACE thread

NASCAR logic. The driver being passed should always turn down to try to force the passing driver below the yellow line, because by rule he then must not pass you. The passing driver has two options: 1) hit the brakes so you don't advance position 2) hold your line and wreck the field.

There's also pass, then give the spot back.

This is the problem with this. Any move is totally inconsequential for the blocker (unless you get wrecked, of course). You’re totally screwed if you’re the overtaking driver. In the 500 with a full field the passer is supposed to putz around on the apron until there’s an opening in traffic?

Classic Steve-O.

Yes it is and I've seen it done successfully.

If that has been allowed, it's just more ad hoc we'll do whatever we want to do at this particular moment officiating. How long does a driver who completed an 'illegal' pass have to cede the position back? If NASCAR is going to recognize that, why not just order Stenhouse to give Busch the position back and be done?

Regardless, it still provides heavy incentive to swerve and block.

I thought the race was OK, sure looks like handling on these slammed cars is a handful and drivers are having a time finding the limits.

Looking forward to watching the Duels live next Thursday. :D

Man, those lower read ends on the cars really look weird. That's going to take me a while to get used to seeing.

It saddens me that a Ricky Stenhouse penalty was the highlight of a race that has actually been damned exciting a few times in the past. One of the announcers mentioned that Harvick "lost the draft" ...... that was my memory of the event

The taildraggers raced pretty good, plenty of three wide racing at the first of the race without disastrous results. Quite a few times drivers would pull out of the line but nobody would go with them. That probably won't happen as much with a full field.

or 3) do what Stenhouse did and act like the yellow line isn't there and hope KDB moves over a bit.

So they give us a full screen view for replays but block 1/6th of the view with that awful scoring ticker for a live race?

The Monday mourning board meeting agenda ...

We can do better with the ticker: List the the top 20 on the left side, the bottom 20 on the right side. Monster energy logos on the headers and footers, perhaps even strobe between Monster Energy logos and the running order to generate some Monster subliminal templates down they throats. That will still leave them 2/3rds of free screen for the non essentials.
The public is begging for it, and that's what they bought them 60 + inches screens for....
Highlight the current coveted Chase elimination position standings in Monster energy green, once they roll off pit road next Sunday too.
They should have been talking 2018 chase implications on December 1, 2017....

I’m not sure I understand those who thought it was a bad race. I thought the first half or more was pretty unbelievable. Lots of moves, bouncing around and racing within the twin lanes. Yes everybody got into a single line...because the bottom groove was not working. Not sure why, but Chase couldn’t hold that lane despite his earlier speed, nor could anyone else. When anyone tried to break low, either alone or with a couple of cars, they had to get back to the top groove quickly to not go backwards. Yes guys took chances late and with some predictable mishaps.

Good preview to Speedweeks. The Camaro performed well but those Fords looked tough late.

I liked The Clash better as a Saturday night race.

I don't. Was excited to see it on an afternoon again.

IMO, the only races at Daytona that should be night races are the 24 Hour race, the Truck Series race and the 500. Move the rest to late afternoon races.

And the only reason I want the 500 at night is because I think, as NASCAR's biggest race, it should be in primetime like every other major sporting event in the United States (Super Bowl, College Football Playoff, NCAA National Championship, World Series, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup Final).

I'm not sure why Fox always feels the need to F with the ticker. A simple horizontal scroll at the top of the screen works best.

The concept behind what Fox is trying to do is great. The execution is horrible.

I personally don't like the scroll, or crawl as it's more commonly known as (for a reason). Most of the time, it never cycles through the whole field because it's interrupted for a replay or a commercial or something.

I don't mind a vertical leaderboard. I do mind when it's solid and takes up 20 percent of my screen.

Denny Hamlin caused Chase Elliott's balls to drop, just like he did with Logano and Keselowski.

If you mean his little feuds with these guys furthered their careers, please explain? All he did was show he had no idea what talent was when he saw it claiming both times he’d probably not see them anymore so he wasn’t too concerned. All they have done is equal or surpass him.

Nobody would want to go to a late afternoon race in July in Daytona.

Overall I just thought the Clash was better when it was on Saturday paired with ARCA so they could have practices on Friday. Move it to Saturday afternoon.

Agreed, makes for a good Saturday of racing. I'd like to see the Trucks race after Cup qualifying on Sunday. That way you'd have 2 weekends filled with racing.

I made that mistake....twice. Went to Pepsi 400 in 93 and again in 96 or 7, don’t remember which? Think Andretti won in RCA car? Anyway, NEVER been so hot in grandstands in my life. And that was before the races. Thank God it became overcast both times about 100 miles in or I think I would have stroked out.

So, season is starting and I am returning to the forum now. Hope you all had a nice off season and holiday/ New Years!

What happened to SkoalBandid33?
