The sport’s finished in my book. This is what happens when you sell out entirely to TV networks. Administrators have a duty to make as much money as possible, and not a duty to all of intercollegiate athletics, conference members, or academia.

It's tough to think of potential positives to come out of this, things will definitely not be the same as they used to be in regards to tradition, but I think it will be end up being okay for CFB and may lead to interesting matchups of the BIG having to come out to the West Coast and vice versa, which hasn't happened a whole lot but is always a good watch (ex Oregon/Ohio State last year).
2 schools I hope will replace USC and UCLA in the PAC are Boise St and San Diego St, the Aztecs have a brand new stadium going in and the Broncos I would like to see take a step up in competition, both teams have enjoyed a level of success consistently over the past decade plus.

Agreed. It’s the same thing NASCAR did, chasing all the dollars at the expense of tradition. End result is going to be a slow fading of interest

I agree it has more negatives than positives, but it is just a continuation of a long train wreck that has been in progress for a long time.
It could help to limit the SEC inbalance.
College football has been kind of effected up anyway. You have to win something like a beauty contest to get a chance to play for the championship.

I think it’s horrible what is happening to college football. I’ve been a fan of it since I was a kid, probably second grade. I loved and still do the Florida Gators, Steve Spurrier was my guy...the ol Ball Coach with that visor and smirk as he was running up the score at The Swamp. Saying that, what also drew me in was the different regional conferences, traditions, rivalries and Bowl Games that came with it. I thought SEC Football was different than Big 10, or Pac 10 different than Big 12. We knew this was coming though...the conferences eating themselves. I felt uneasy when Nebraska and Colorado left for conferences they had no affiliation with...then Maryland left the ACC, a place they fit perfectly in to go to the Big 10. Rutgers left so...the Big 10 could capture the NY market. Now you have two schools from the west coast LA going to play conference games in the Midwest. Good luck with that 9am(PT) kick off in Iowa City. That’s great...eventually I think these schools are going to break away from the NCAA and have their own league with a champion. It’s going to be Fox vs ESPN it looks like. This all sucks, but it’s a cautionary tale. Once you begin supplementing your income with only that sweet TV cash, you are at their mercy and will do whatever they tell you to do...changes abound good or bad. Sounds increasingly like my favorite stock car series I watch weekly.

I’ve seen a fair amount of argument over recent developments and the future of sport. Notably, lots of fans noting the way NASCAR and American open wheel helped cannibalism themselves. Chasing TV deals and national interest while changing how championships are determined on one hand, splitting into two different leagues and ultimately damaging the one crown jewel event in another. I don’t doubt national casual interest may well increase, but after some time these big programs will lose their luster as someone has to be the bottom feeder even in a super league.
The Rose Bowl is junked (as have been most others for some time), and we are well on our way to a playoff in which multiple SEC and Big Ten teams will make the playoffs with multiple losses each. Pretty much every game is viewed with regard to the national title now, and individual regular season games become less and less meaningful. After some time I wouldn’t be surprised if the two biggest conferences just decided to split off from the poors and do their own thing - surely there’s nothing to be gained from $100M TV deal schools losing to $30M ones. Lots of regional rivalries lost, meaningful bowl games lost. It’s all setting up to be very boring.

Might be the best game on Saturday. I expect Ohio State to run through Notre Dame.

Yeah, I'm biased because I'm a huge Florida fan, but I think the Gators come out with the win. I realize it's the first game under a new coaching staff after a ****** year and we're playing a damn good opponent, but I like Florida's odds. I think it will be a close game with the Gators coming out on top.
