College Football 2024

How do you punish flag planting?

If I'm with Michigan I have one of the seniors who never plays plant the flag.
The Big Ten fined both OSU and UM and the ACC fined all of UNC/NCSU/VT/UVA. Probably all they can do for now, but I could imagine them getting more heavy-handed with the fines and even move to suspensions in the future.

I think the move in the future will be to wait for the home team to clear the field and do it afterwards.

When Sun Belt Billy was given the vote of confidence for 2025, much of the funds raised for his buyout were reallocated towards NIL investments. Florida is 3-1 since then and going on a tear on the recruiting trail.

Rigged for Bama and Ohio State as always
Ohio State I really don’t have much of an issue with. They got 2 losses. One of those to the #1 team in the country, another a close one to Michigan, who yeah isn’t a great team this year, but it happens.

Nobody should be surprised that they found a way to put Bama back in. Seems odd to me that SMU & Boise State would have byes.

It seems it’s gonna take some time to adjust perceptions of what a “playoff team” is now that we’ve expanded to 12. This was always going to happen when the margin for error was opened up and will only get worse when they inevitably expand to 14 and then 16.

There’s been so much discourse about how the 5 seed is preferable to the 1 seed through the first two rounds that I would be surprised if they don’t get rid of the byes for the top four conference champions come 2026.

My take is probably not as popular but I don't think planting your flag on the other teams field after winning any game or any of forms of disrespect are justified. Why would anyone expect to get away with it, or go unchecked by the home team watching the display as it is happening on their home field.

They say winning is the best revenge and it should be enough. Just win the game and be proud of that in a classy way.

Sadly that ship has sailed.

Today's players are all about self-gratification and taunting their opponents. We all bad-mouth the flag plant but we also all remember Mayfield doing it and ESPN will include these antics in its promos for years to come.

The NCAA has the cards it can be stopped if there is the will to stop it.

The NCAA is powerless. The Big Ten and SEC call the shots now.

They have gotten so big that they could drop out of the NCAA and start their own league. Other leagues would follow and the NCAA would be left in the field holding their unit. The NCAA knows it.

Fair enough and in that case
the NCAA, Big Ten, SEC etc should use fines, suspensions, or whatever to ensure order a certain level of common decency and respect.

Rich Rod is gonna win a conference title in Jacksonville State’s second season at the FBS level. Idk if the rumors about him having a reunion with West Virginia are true but it would be pretty interesting if so.

Feels strange that with the new format the two games between top 5 teams are the most low-leverage P4 games of the day. ACC will end up being the most important since it’ll determine what happens with Alabama.

Gotta switch over to Michigan basketball exclusively now and then back to college football for the SEC Championship

Ok I lied. Huge targeting call against ASU. He's going to miss half of the CFP game. I would take all my starters out to avoid any other possible ejections.

I didn't see it. Was it facemask to the breast plate of the shoulder pads? That's how a friend described it.

Average MOV of 27 through five title games so far. Hopefully the rest of the day can deliver.

Thanks for posting that. I can never grasp the definition of targeting but it's clear the helmet contacted the facemask.

At a minimum it was face tackling. 'Course I don't know if face tackling is illegal in college like it is in high school.

The runner/receiver signaling first down was cool when Michael Irvin did it 30 years ago.

I would be fine if I never again see a player do that or a defensive player signal incomplete.
