Lefty finally pulled it off. You could see in his face all day long that he just knew this was his day. He had a huge grin on his face as he walked the last few holes. Knowing he needed a birdie on 18 to win it outright and a par effort to go into overtime with Ernie Els, he confidently strided to the green on 18. With Ernie Els practicing putting in anticipation of a possible playoff, Phil very purposefully stroked a birdie putt to silence his critics forever.
Phil really seemed to be relishing this opportunity this whole week. When asked last night how it felt to have Tiger Woods being 9 shots back going into sunday after being beaten by Woods so many times. Phil responded "Well it doesn't suck, I can tell you that" with a laugh.
Seeing Phil celebrate with his wife and kids on the way to turn in his scorecard was pretty cool too.
