Great Daytona NNS win. IMHO, he’s an underrated driver who belongs in Cup more than some of the drivers already in there. I’m glad Jr. supports him and hopefully he will get the kind of results in NNS this year that will get him back in a good Cup ride next year.

I think he'll get some looks after he wins the Nationwide championship this season.

Rick is high on him, I wouldn't be surprise if he is offered a ride with Hendrick Motorsports. Most likely taking Kahne's spot.

Might be me but I dont think Kahne fits in the Hendrick Organization. Everytime you look at him he's got the look of someone not in his own head. lol Weird dude.

Wouldn't doubt that...Kasey Kahne is the old Kyle Busch of Hendrick, except without the level of success.

I also believe that Chase Elliott is poised to join Hendrick sometime in the future...I believe Hendrick's worked with him as a developmental driver.

Regan ran in the #48 for practice and qualifying at Richmond last fall while Jimmie was on baby watch and would've also ran in the race if it were necessary, so I think the organization definitely trusts him.

Pretty much agree with you on Kahne too. He has a lot of talent but seems like too much of a bonehead, on the track and off. He rolled over for JGR all of last year too.

Regan also ran a few races when Dale Jr. was out with a concussion a couple years ago.

Congrats to Smith.

As for Kahne, do people really think that he's the one that needs to leave HMS? Although I do understand that winning races and making the chase doesn't guarantee a driver anything in todays Nascar, unfortunately.

Not that he needs to, but I think if any of them were to get the boot soon it would be him. The other three will probably all retire as HMS drivers. The youngest of them will be 39 at the end of the season.

I'm not a real big Regan fan but I am a huge Kellie Earnhardt fan . She is the real deal . Way to go Kellie.

Although I think Smith would be a good fit at HMS, Kahne is winning races and I can't imagine why Hendrick would rock the ship as long as HMS has the Sprint Cup in it's possession - I know I wouldn't.

Kahne's the youngest of the four too.

It sucks how a guy can get 4 wins in two years and be considered someone that should get the boot when you got Dale Jr over there doing nothing but getting a free ride because of his name. I mean damn Kasey only has 3 less career wins than Jr. and been around 2/3 as long... in another year or two he'll probably have more wins than him. Brutal.

Yep, he's only 33.

The day the announcement was made that Jr was going to Hendrick I did a complete facepalm & that hand is still stuck to my forehead. I knew he was going to be a cash cow wheelholder. This will be Kasey's year to shine now that he has Hendrick experience under his belt. Jr needs to go to bring in some talent worth a damn instead of a dollar.

Yup... it sucks too because if he doesn't win 34 races and the cup it'll be his crew chiefs fault.. "Oh well they're in a lame duck year bla bla bla!"

I think Face palm is the right description of it... I remember before I even watched NASCAR being surprised Jr was leaving the 8 car.

But I had no idea that Smith was a Hendrick prospect. Dale Jr is still under contract for a while & idk about Khane's situation. After 2016 (probably) it looks like Chase Elliot, or even Larson, is destined to take the 24 car. Interesting to see where he ends up.

I like Smith, I think he's got some talent and he's a good guy, but I don't see Hendrick making room for him. As you said, he has Jr and Kahne and with Chase Elliott coming up his line up seem set for a while.

Kyle wasn't even that successful in the #5. Four wins in three years and a best points finish of 5th. Kasey already has a 4th place points finish and 4 wins in 2 years in that car.

Huh, you're right. For some reason I thought Kyle did better :idunno:

Seriously? Regan Smith is a very underrated driver but there's zero chance Hendrick would dump Kahne for him. Kahne has won 4 races and made the chase both seasons he's been there. Why I'm shocked he hasn't been bumped down to Nationwide! :owquitit:

Hendricks would be a good place for him if there were to be an opening there. Jr's always been high on him. I could also see him at JGR. There's long been rumors about JGR adding a 4th car and I think he would be a good fit there.

Wow , I seem to be seriously misinformed about Regan , and I don't know where I got my information about him . I have the impression that he is a great driver , the best that was available to Junior Motorsports at the time , but a bit of a big feelin' prima donna . A hard guy for the crew to work with and not a 'team guy' . Anyone else out there have any impression like that ? Or am I nutz. ?

You're nuts lol

He still finished lowest in points out of all of the HMS drivers; he actually finished six spots below the third driver on the team.

Jimmie and Gordon can run at HMS as long as they want, Jr.'s contract runs through 2017, Kasey's contract runs through 2015. If anyone is getting let go soon it's him. It could be for Chase Elliott if Gordon decides to run 2016.

Kyle Busch finished 10th and 5th in points in his final two seasons at HMS and he still got forced out. It's tough to retain your position with the top organization in the sport.

Its always funny when someone calls a driver out for not winning and BAM he goes and win one.

While Jr. doesn't win a ton he brings double the money so it equals out. When Jr. wins everyone wins in NASCAR in terms of popularity and sport recognition.

You cant say that about Kahne. A win by Kahne will only be celebrated by the few and forgotten by next week. He's just not an impactful guy.

Congrats to Regan, it was a well deserved win and some serious redemption for last year.

However those suggesting he could replace Kahne are out to lunch, I'm sorry. Kasey might be a little bit odd sometimes but he's got as much talent as anybody out there. His driving style gets him into trouble and causes wrecks but if he can be a little more cautious out there, that's the only thing keeping him from bring a true title contender IMO.

The fact that he has won in everything he has driven speaks to his abilities. He won in a crappy Red Bull Toyota, some junk RPM Fords too. Wasn't he the only guy to win in all 4 makes?

Nascar hit the jackpot last week, Daytona and Jr, it doesn't get any better than that in Nascar land. This couldn't hurt the Jr motorsports effort's, hope Regan Smith is up to it. I thought they had the championship last year, but they choked going down the stretch.

Kasey Kahne has one of the biggest fan bases in the sport. Finishes top 5 in most popular driver every year. And he's more talented and younger than Jr. So why would Hendrick dump him? Answer is he won'twon't

Are those stats from 2005 and from lonely moms?

Kahne is the weak link in the Hendrick stable, if anyone is gonna get the boot is him. Gordon can race all he wans and Rick has already offered Jimmie a lifetime contract but he turn that down and instead went for a 5 year contract. I doubt Jimmie would ever want to leave Hendrick. And Jr. like I say brings in the heavy top dollars so just based on that he wouldn't get fired.

That leaves just one Kasey Kahne. He's the one that's most replaceable.

I think he was #2 in MPD voting behind Junior in 2013, was he not?

Even though everybody has Dale Jr fever right now, Kasey Kahne actually has more wins in two seasons driving for Hendrick than Junior has in six, and he has a 4th place points finish, the best Jr has been able to do is 5th.

So, no, Kasey's not going anywhere.

Doesn't matter if he's younger and more talented (debatable) than Jr. Dale (will be 43 when his HMS contract expires), Jimmie, and Gordon (lifetime contract) will very likely all finish out their careers at HMS. That leaves one driver whose contract expires when Chase Elliott finishes his second Nationwide season.

Not debatable. Kahne is one of the most talented drivers in the sport, and has won 16 races (only 4 less then jr.) in petty, evernham, and red bull equipment (4 different manufacturers. He's also been in the sport 4 less years then jr., and has won more races with Hendrick then he has. Jr., Gordon, and Johnson, are all getting up in age, and when they all retire Kahne will be the senior driver for Chase Elliott and maybe Larson. Jr. Is a good driver and gets way too much flack, but he's not better then Kahne. Let's see who does better by the end of the year
