I know people say that so and so retired and the sport went on. The difference is I don't think nascar has ever in its past experienced a decline in viewership and attendance. I don't think it has ever experienced 2 of its biggest stars leaving in successive years. ie jeff and tony. Now its faced with loosing its most popular driver, dale jr. dale jr is the most popular driver by such a long shot its pretty much not even close. I have been a fan of the sport and have drivers I like but in the last few weeks I have noticed my own interest waining.

All this can't be good for nascar and its search for a new title sponsor.

this would be a good question for allenbada to answer. if your watching how big of an issue is this?

It will make no difference at all. While the Earnhardt name will be prominent in racing for decades to come, Jr's on-track impact has been dimished to the point that other drivers, especially in the JGR stable have filled the void. Most everyone expects Jr to retire within the next year, so Nascar is making the appropriate preparations.

I don't believe that this is a true statement.

Agreed, you have the classic mouths like Tony and Brad who really don't have much impact in the scheme of things. This is a sponsor/money driven sport and no driver is more powerful than that.

JMO but I think the biggest obstacle for Nascar in the search for a title sponsor is term and money. When a sponsor is announced it will probably be framed as a 10 year deal but with an early out clause. I suspect financial terms will either be kept quiet or twisted in such a manner that it makes Nascar look like they broke the bank.

I agree with this, no one knows how things would be today if he were still alive when King Faux took over.
