Cup Championship RACE thread --- Phoenix

I think that the 5, 9 and 22 will be the 3 dominant drivers of the sport like Gordon, Johnson and Stewart were from 2002-2005. But those Hendrick guys need a few more years

Larson and Cliff showed that they are still mistake prone, and can't just rely on speed/outdriving people. The 9 showed vulnerability and a general lack of confidence in finding pace when they needed it after a strong season.

Both HMS guys just couldn't put a full season together

22 guys did, had a much higher floor than Elliott and Larson, and peaked higher than both when it mattered. No one deserved it more than the 22 this year.

Crazy to see no one truly dominated this season. I mean hell 5 wins being the most is pretty low. As much flack as the new car gets, some of it deserved, it seemed to even the playing field a little bit.

I like that finally we had a race where the Championship 4 weren't the top 4! Really shows how not dialed in everyone is for the Next Gen car. Love Phoenix and the racing it provides, but yeah there was little doubt Joey was going to win.

Keep it here though, no point in risking a rain out in Miami. Looks like Miami is going to get hit this week with a borderline hurricane, you can't have your championship in a spot where inclement weather like that is a real possibility. If anything rotate Auto Club and Phoenix for the title if you want to

I think it should rotate around multiple tracks where weather isn't a big issue in November. Could be phoenix, California, Vegas, Texas (after they fix it) even many southeast tracks don't have the worst weather in Nov.
 
I don't see any advantage to moving the final race from here to there every year. I did think it was a good move to take the final race to the desert and an arid climate. Like anything else, the move was going to leave some hurt feelings, Homestead is a pretty good track as far as tracks go, but the weather is always the problem and it can make the date undependable compared to an almost no brainer lock at Phoenix.

I can’t believe I forgot Vegas! Agreed though that while it’s significantly drier in the Fall down here in the SE, is it worth the risk?
 
I'd love to see Vegas or Charlotte get it. Vegas due to location and events, and Charlotte due to it being in the hub of the sport and putting on great race with this car in 600.

I think moving the championship race year in and year out feels a bit gimmicky.

Passing wasn't as much of an issue yesterday as people expected, but it was a little bit of an issue. All that said I do think that an intermediate track would be better off for the finale since that track type seems to make up most of the schedule.

What would you think if NASCAR moved the finale to Darlington, and left it there?

That's it in a nutshell. Chase didn't answer the question as asked, as he wasn't going to resort to trash talking in the heat of the moment. Judging by the radio he truly didn't know what happened, and his team didn't do him any favors with their answers when he asked. Maybe he should have thrown a Kyle Busch level tantrum, I dunno.

That said, I'm convinced Chase could take a dump and guys would be blue in the face screaming that he only wiped twice instead of the needed 3 times and we Chase fans are in denial.
