He waited forever to pit, and during the time he was on the track with older tires, others had newer tires. Turned out to be a smart move though, because that meant he didn't need to pit just now and will restart closer the front.

Its also nice to have all that pavement before the wall on the backstretch so the cars are slowed up more when they hit
