Cup RACE thread --- Bristol

How long it takes for a driver to get his first win isn't much of an indicator of future success. There have been plenty of one-win wonders. A better indicator is how long it takes to get the fifth (if ever). I'm not directing this at Gibbs, it's a generalization.

I think we'll see him win more in the next three years than he has the past three.

I agree. He's probably on the cusp of being a real contender, imo.

For the last few races, Harvick has been vocal about Brad K's big problem... poor qualifying, which makes it difficult to rack up stage points. The data absolutely proves Harvick's point. For the first eight races, Kez ranks 22nd in average starting position, and 6th in average finish. That's a huge disparity.

The chart below shows that Keselowski ranks 11th in total points. But if stage points are ignored, Brad is 6th... passing Larson, Byron, Wallace, Bell, and Buescher just by disregarding stage points.

Bottom line: the 6 team has to be better on Saturdays!

It also shows why stage points are important. It makes drivers stay up on the wheel. Poor qualifying can be lessened with a good car to start with if a driver blows his qualifying lap, but in Keselowski's case, he doesn't show up with a fast car to start with many times. Almost all of the Fords are in the same boat qualifying except Blaney for the most part.
The Fords and the Yotas are doing better because the Chevys aren't doing that great. It's interesting to see if the bowties will start coming on.

Gibbs did a good job holding off Blaney and Larson. He deserves the win. Does anyone know if Bowman has said anything about how he felt during the race?

He seems good to go to me 👍 . A little surprising that they decided to bring him back at Bristol of all places with the amount of g's loading and unloading, but got that out of the way at least. I wish him well in the car and am hoping he can get back to his usual self with results on track doing what he loves.

It appears that many if not most are forgetting that Ty was closing until the yellow stuff. Getting around Blaney would have been an issue, but getting to him was going to happen. Blaney best car? Maybe. Blaney deserving the win? Maybe not.

He wasn't going to catch him imo. He was absolutely the best car. No one "should" have won anything, sure. But he drove a flawless race, and without the pit stop issues, he probably would have had a Larson fall 2024/spring 2025 run had he not lost the track position.

If his pit crew didnt cost him 14+ spots, he wins that race. Does that mean to me he deserves it? I think so.

Ty was within a second. Blaney slid twice. He caught him.

This got me to go back and look, Blaney hit big time traffic with about 60 to go and almost put it in the wall with 45 to go, really had some big moments of slip up losing the front end, no wonder they came in to put tires on. Not sure if Ty would have passed him under green but it sure seemed liked Blaney was losing the handle on the 12. (was within a second).

IDK 4 of the yotas stayed out and they all advanced. Bad pit calls for those that pitted. Tires just weren't a factor. 60 lap times were as good or better than new tires. There was so much rubber on the track it didn't matter.
