Cup RACE thread --- California

The Clean Air 500 at Auto Club Speedway.

Go 42 or 78.

Give it time - they will start crashing at approximately 5:55 Eastern Time

Don't care about crashing. I just find the follow the leader stuff to be boring. The leader has ran off. Larson ran off. Truex ran off. Now Larson is running off again. The track is great and there's decent racing throughout the field, not so much up front, though.

I love this racetrack. But today has been pretty boring.

10 years into the wave around, and they still talk about the risk of shortpitting. Outside of the tracks where you lose two laps, there is essentially no risk.

Larson looking like the Championship favorite so far, didn't think I would be saying at the beginning of the year

BTW, no way Brain lets this run caution free to the end. We saw in Atlanta that he would still use the phantom debris caution despite corrupting the racing with planned cautions.

Well - looks like the Crew Chiefs are rolling the dice on "Strategery" now - we will see.

Screwy day for the 48.

Lets go Larson, keep it away from Truex.

Now if I were a bit psychic I might think that the tires will be shot for the leaders after 40 laps or so - some car will blow a tire - caution - some will stay out on old tires hoping the clean air does the trick for them - most will get two or four - restart will be a wild mess resulting in the "big one" and Newman will likely win again

Hell yeah to this.

You can see who is ACTUALLY fast instead of what nonsense the the announcers spew.
That's the way it was last year and it was free. Oh well, I guess if you want it bad enough, get out the wallet which is what I will have to do....lol

End of this race would be interesting on really old tires if it's allowed to play out (eg if Brain has fallen asleep).

"Surrender the lead to Martin Truex" ? Is Mike Joy not watching this race?

Ohp, then a lap later Truex takes the lead. Fix! lol

Yeah - it's interesting to hear our announcers explaining what may happen if nothing goes wrong. Thing is - something almost always goes wrong.

Reminds me of an old military saying "no battle plan survives the first 5 minutes of actual combat"

Hate to admit it but I just realized those are mtns near the track
and not rain clouds.

I have seen better races at Fontana. Just remember though,
if you are at the track ,its always 10 times better.

#Gooooo24.

They're having to get all their sponsored segments in at the end due to the lack of cautions.
