Cup RACE thread --- Chicago Street

Lots of positive momentum around the city via newspapers, nightly tv newscasts and radio on the race. Complete 180 from when it first was announced to even last year. The main thing is I think that all involved city wise want the date changed, if so I could see it coming back for sure.

When Shane and I used to race through our neighbourhood…he usually came second. 🤣

When a non-contending car crashes on the next-to-last lap of a race as the leaders are approaching the waving of the white flag, we're typically told that an immediate caution (prior to the white flag) is necessary in the interest of safety, i.e. to attend to the driver(s) involved and to keep cars from piling up at the crash site, thereby resulting in the race going to a GWC finish.

However, after the end of Sunday's race we're told that the caution was held after Cody Ware's horrific wreck due to the threat of approaching rain and the desire to not get into a GWC scenario.

imo, a truly horrendous decision by NASCAR not to throw that yellow immediately.

Driver walked away. We can argue until we are blue in the face. Ware was against the wall on the right in the tires and part of the field he was ahead of passed on the left, the right path thru the corner. They (the whole field) had the whole track to race before they got back to Ware. Ware didn't get free of the tires like Larson, Busch Grayson did in that same corner last year. Nascar threw the caution before the field returned to the accident scene. It's racing, I would suggest golf for the feint of heart. It's fast paced, not perfect and decisions are made on the fly.

No argument, just an opinion.

Golf ?

A good walk ruined . . .

Eh, three years in a row is enough for one particular street course. My vote for a replacement is Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, being that they want to emulate F1 and all. Of course, it'll probably be San Diego as rumored.

Considering how heavy that shunt was an immediate yellow was warranted for that crash even if it would've led to a terrible finish.
The TV pictures only showed a car buried in the tire wall and didn't give an indication of the impact. Race control probably didn't see the impact as well and therefore held the caution.

Brake failures will never not be scary. Imagine going 250 kph and a wall is coming straight at you with nothing you can do. Thankfully we have HANS systems now and Cody walked away.

SVG was talking about the Supercars that race road courses. He said they are equipped with devices that measure G forces and over a certain amount of G load in a wreck, it automatically sends an alert signal to send safety crews. Sounds like a good idea for Nascar to pick up.
