Cup RACE thread --- Daytona

To be fair, this is Daytona and it's on NBC, there probably are some first time viewers tonight. This isn't like when this race was on TNT for years and only die-hards were watching.

Well I hope all 10 of them have a firm understanding of how the hoods are fastened.

When I watch any other sport, I don't see segments dedicated to explain very basic mundane things about it. NASCAR is the only sport where this happens.

Other sports assume that first time viewers can pick it up as they watch.

Fords look pretty strong tonight. Worried that Jr won't be able to beat em when it counts later tonight

In football they used to have sideline reporters show different clear lengths during muddy games.

That same logic can be applied to other races being on FOX. First time viewers dont know the daytona prestige anyway

New fans these days ask questions on Internet forums. :D

Oh really? I could have sworn it was a drone... from the far away view I've seen of it, it looked like a drone.

Never mind I guess lol
Sam Flood explains the NBCSN Bat-Cam, “We’ve got this bat-cam that’s going to fly down the backstretch here. That can go up to 100mph. It goes 0-70mph in 1.5 seconds.”

The camera is suspended several feet off the ground just above the inside wall.

That's going to be Ato's schtick as a member of the broadcast team. He's there to ask questions that a non-fan may ask.

First race on NBC. That's potentially a much larger audience. It's been promoted during the Triple Crown, the Stanley Cup Playoffs and on MSNBC.

I don't mind elementary things being explained during Daytona races, or Charlotte and Indianapolis.

ESPN does during College Basketball coverage.

And, as only a casual viewer of basketball, it drives me nuts when CBS, TNT and the ACC Network act like I should have expertise in the sport to follow what's going on. I still don't know what the damn possession arrow means.
