Cup RACE thread ---- Michigan, #1

Yep I have no idea why Chase didn't take the inside on that last restart. The only time he did he took the lead.
Chase took the inside all day. P3 on the outside lane was the catbird seat on most every restart. Chase had momentum and had to give Kevin and shove and when he did that he lost momentum. It was a good call that didn’t have the luck his way.

11th for Jones.

I appreciate the effort. They atleast took some chances and went for track position verses getting tires.

best part, there’s another race tomorrow

Opportunist.
What does that even mean... opportunist? Sounds to me like the excuses Chase Elliott fans say about guys that actually get better results than Chase. Kinda reminds me of the tired old "Camaro Excuse" that has been past it's 'sell by date' for years now.

First, calm your tits.
Second, Brad has been fast all season long and has been in position to win plenty of times. On several occasions Brad has taken advantage of misfortune and ran away with the trophy. He’s been an opportunist most of the season so far.

How cute!

Objectively speaking, Brad has mostly had disappointing speed early in races this year. Per timing loop data, his overall speed rank is 7th through 20 races, according to Motorsport Analytics. But late in races, his speed ranks 1st. I'd say the 2 team working on its stuff to dial it in before the checkered flag is a pretty reasonable principal for a racer, but that's just me..:idunno:

BTW, the #9 team ranks 1st in overall speed this year. Chase Elliott probably regrets not converting more of his opportunities.

Meanwhile, Harvick is the one tearing it up. In 2014 through 2019 (since he joined SHR), he had the fastest car or 2nd fastest car every year - an incredible streak - but he often struggled to convert the fastest car to the winning car. But in 2020, his overall speed ranks 5th fastest and he seems to win every week.

Reactions: Pat
I think it was just racing and incidental, but it's fun to imagine the different tenor of reactions if the #4 / #18 situation were exactly reversed.
Personally, I like to criticize 'em both for dodgy driving. I've seen quite a bit of it too, but today's incident was pretty benign IMO.

If I'm not mistaken, this race is the fiftieth race that Harvick has led the most laps in upon joining SHR.

This blows his tally of only thirteen such instances during his long tenure at RCR out of the water.

Just an interesting and reflective factoid on how Harv has become a tour de force.

Great finish for Bubba. He is getting something out of the 43 we haven't seen in a long time.
