Cup RACE thread --- M'ville

Totally anticlimactic race. This latest iteration of a NASCAR Cup car is not conducive to the short tracks. Both the Xfinity and the Truck vehicles made a more interesting race. At least to me. This was almost like watching a go kart race with plastic bodies.

What do tickets cost? People probably can't afford to go anymore with how expensive stuff is.

Yeah, it's quite an isolated area, so as I always say, if you can't drive there and back in a day, it can be expensive. I've already bought my tickets to Kansas and Texas, but only because I don't require a hotel say for either track. The tickets are expensive enough, but when you have to add on gas, food and lodging, it can get out of your price range very quickly.

I've always stayed in Charlotte and driven to Martinsville when I've gone so I can't speak on places to stay but their tickets aren't bad at all from what I remember. Their concessions are also very cheap plus you're allowed to bring in whatever you want so in terms of affordability it's gotta be one of the cheaper tracks.

Points after Martinsville. Josh Berry the biggest loser 7 spots followed by Eric Jones losing 6.

Christopher Bell being 4th in points after 7 races with 3 wins and 4 top 5's is what confuses about this points system. He's tied with Bowman who has 1 top 5. I know it's on me to understand the points system, but I thought this current system was to put the emphasis on rewarding winning above all else. I guess that is only to punch your "playoff" ticket.

Points as always reward consistency. They always have and still do it's what those who refuse to understand the system don't get.

It's even more confusing when you look at the stats. I don't think the points system IS understandable. There isn't enough information posted to be able to figure it.

This. It would be more understandable if they added columns for Stage Points and Finishing Points.

"More understandable" doesn't equate to "make more sense". That can only be fixed by awarding the race winner more points than everyone else in the field regardless of stage finishes. More point to the winner would also allow eliminating 'win and you're in' and all its issues. But I've been down this road before.

I would settle for just the proper way to be able to figure out how Bell is 4th and Byron is 1st on a simple sheet that one could at a glance add the points and it would show how come that is so.
Re-doing the points system is beyond the realm of reason at this point.

Not a win but the 9 desperately needed a mistake free issue free weekend
Yeah I agree and Denny was the best car for sure but for me this is another example of why the 9 is struggling to win. They lost 2 spots in the pits on the money stop. If they got him the lead then I think the car was good enough to hold the lead. Denny was the best but I think any of the top 4 would have been though to pass for the lead. It's another example that in order to win you have to execute all the way around.

Oh well - hopefully that builds some momentum at least.

Right. Amazingly enough though...all that will matter in the end in who makes the final 4 is wins. Everyone making an issue about who is higher than Bell in the points is amazing to me given that while yes - he has the 3 wins - he also has 2 finishes of 29th or worse and finished outside the top 10 at Vegas. It just does not matter though. He has already locked himself into the playoffs and the only thing that matters at this point is racking up playoff points to make it easier to get to Phoenix where he will be a favorite for his first title if he makes the final 4.
