Quiet ride back to Charlotte in the 11 hauler coming up...
Yeah and they were the last car to start pitting so they saw all those cars taking 2 tires. Just a terrible call by the teamYea, I kind of thought as watching it go down “hey you might want to stay out…okay you’re coming down pit road, do two.” It’s kind of crazy they went 4 now that it’s had time to breath
You know, you make a very good point there. Didn't even think of that. Byron definitely might not blow that tire.Byron isn’t pushing his tire to failure if he came into this race with a points cushion. That’s why I can’t really put stock into these what-if standings. Everything from how teams prep their cars, strategize atop the pit box, to how the drivers race changes depending upon the format used.
I’m generally okay with the concept of Kyle Larson, 2x Cup Series Champion. It sounds right. But how Hamlin lost this race and this championship today, using the rules that are in place, was exceedingly brutal.
The problem with this thinking, and the whole "so and so would've won the title in (inset year) by this amount of points under the old Winston Cup system" is that you assume that the teams make the exact same decisions. If we do go back to a 36 race season with no playoffs, suddenly there is a lot less risk taking and you go back to consistency being the most important factor. Drivers and Teams would be making different decisions, and who knows what would happen points wise.Yeah. Larson came in 11 behind Byron. Won by 14 from what I've seen.
Yes, Denny got hosed by today's points system, I agree. But I look at it as the world correcting its self.
We can both agree this system does need to end I'm sure.

My only gripe is that the race shouldn't have a fake game 7 moment involved in it. If it happened organically we would be talking about what a heck of a race it was for years. We aren't going to get that with this. The fastest car doesn't always when the race. Great strategy wins a lot of races by being in the right place at the right time. If you have put yourself in a position that you can win in overtime than you deserve the win if you cross the finish line before everyone else no matter if you lead any other lap...the last lap is the most important.
I don't like Overtime. I've been railing against it for years now.
If we're going to keep this goofy ass ****, then tweak it. One attempt only. Pits remain closed, like they would in the final two laps of a stage. You got what you got and you start where you are.
Just ridiculous watching all this manufactured chaos at the end of a race.
I don't know how you guys keep watching this WWE manufactured BS.
Its all we have to go off of right now. So its what we have to use. Surely people would race different no doubt. That's true. But uh still only the GWC screwed Denny. Not the playoffs themselves. The problem with this thinking, and the whole "so and so would've won the title in (inset year) by this amount of points under the old Winston Cup system" is that you assume that the teams make the exact same decisions. Which they pretty much do lol. That’s the frustration. It’d be like the NFL resetting the game at the 2-minute warning.
I don't know how you guys keep watching this WWE manufactured BS.
I watched about 2 hours of racing the entire year. Didn't miss it a bit.Heck, with NASCAR showing less and less races on broadcast TV and with the cost to access cable stations constantly going up, NASCAR is making it much easier for people to give it up.
Won’t be for much longer. I’m a nut hair away from cancelling YouTube TV as is.I don't know how you guys keep watching this WWE manufactured BS.
Are you more productive because of it or are you just finding something else to watch during that time? I’d imagine one could accomplish a lot using the 90 hours that they would have been using to watch the races each season.I watched about 2 hours of racing the entire year. Didn't miss it a bit.
Honestly, all I really watched this year was the Daytona 500, Coke 600, Southern 500, Bristol night race, Martinsville and today's race at Phoenix. And I would say the Daytona 500 and today's Phoenix race were the only ones I watched start to finish.I watched about 2 hours of racing the entire year. Didn't miss it a bit.
Well said, you summed up my feelings better than i could. Bravo.Byron isn’t pushing his tire to failure if he came into this race with a points cushion. Sure agreed we both want this system to end. I just want a system that focuses on more on the racing and actual races themselves if that makes sense.Yeah. Larson came in 11 behind Byron. Won by 14 from what I've seen.

I quit sometime in the mid 2000's for several years after being a huge fan since the 80's. But since Kyle Larson is from our area of NorCal, I watched him grow up in Sprints and Midgets. Then when he went to stock cars around 2012. So he has been the only real reason I am been watching again and why I joined this forum in 2014. Not sure how much more I can take of the absurd rules and gimmicks though.Won’t be for much longer. I’m a nut hair away from cancelling YouTube TV as is.
I mean speaking for me, I think that’s fair.Sorry for how aggressive I was.
I think people are more upset the championship came down to a GWC, and despite the fact the correct guy won in the end, that it never should've came down to that in the first place. Which is proof enough to why to nuke the playoffs.
Is this correct?
Yea frankly I almost walked away after Jeff Gordon retired. Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson kept me in. Busch is almost done, when Larson is done not sure I’ll stick around especially if this crap is used to determine a champion still exists. I’d love to see Zillisch race in cup and be great but not just sure if I have it in me.I quit sometime in the mid 2000's for several years after being a huge fan since the 80's. I just saw people **** talking the system and took it the wrong way. Like being upset that a flawed system caused the mess today, that I can fully understand. Because trust me, I hate this playoffs bs. I hate Larson championship feels tainted where we could possibly be celebrating it if they just had given us the right system to begin with. Pending if Byron pushes and blows his tire.I mean speaking for me, I think that’s fair.
Found out who won via Jayski’s.
Yea totally how I felt lol. The system created this mess we saw today. NBC didn’t even interview the race winner lol. I hope there’s serious serious change after tonight.I just saw people **** talking the system and took it the wrong way. So I definitely think I understand now so that's my bad lol.

I found out looking at the leader board that was shown on NBC.So did everyone else. NBC didn't even announce a winner at the line (I thought it was Keselowski) and signed off within four minutes without telling us who won.
The entire day was a black eye for NASCAR.
I bought $1000 worth of tickets for Vegas race. I never left California. So did everyone else. NBC didn't even announce a winner at the line (I thought it was Keselowski) and signed off within four minutes without telling us who won.

The gerbils had lock jaw, completely talked out. Their whole B.S. fairy tale story blew up in their faces. So did everyone else. NBC didn't even announce a winner at the line (I thought it was Keselowski) and signed off within four minutes without telling us who won.

I do as well. I wanna see what they announce. Wonder how long it takes to find out.Yea totally how I felt lol. The system created this mess we saw today. NBC didn’t even interview the race winner lol. I hope there’s serious serious change after tonight.

I've seen enough. Need to go back to 2003 rules. End the playoff crap, end the overtime gimmick, and end stage breaks.
I doubt we get the 2003 points, even if we get a full season deal. They definitely wanna keep stages and everything like that. I be fine with being wrong, but if we get 36 season deal, I'll be okay with keeping this other stuff as well.I've seen enough. Need to go back to 2003 rules. What's even more infuriating is that the disgraced drug addict that came up with this format isn't even in NASCAR anymore (he's been shunned). So why they insist on sticking with this **** is baffling.I didn’t watch for obvious reasons.

This sport has become a clown show. The idiots that run this farce should be fired for incompetence.
Not only stuck with it, they doubled down. What's even more infuriating is that the disgraced drug addict that came up with this format isn't even in NASCAR anymore (he's been shunned). So why they insist on sticking with this **** is baffling.
