From the extremely reliable pages of the National Enquirer.....

The life of NASCAR superstar Dale Earnhardt Jr. has turned into a train wreck, and pals fear he's headed for an emotional breakdown.

The 35-year-old driver is feuding with the owner of his racing team, he's burned through a string of girlfriends, and he's still haunted by the tragic death of his legendary father, sources say.

Now the troubled bachelor may be turning to booze to cope, insiders say.

"Dale Jr. seems almost in a death spiral," disclosed a close pal. "He's locked himself away from his closest friends, and he's upset all the time.

"Those closest to him are concerned about his mental health and well-being. No one wants to see him do something stupid. We've suggested that he get help, take some time off and regroup, but he won't listen."

Another source divulged: "Dale tries to downplay his reputation as a hard drinker, but he's lived his life like a frat boy at a kegger. But now he's drinking not for the fun of it, but to heal deep wounds that are eating away at him. We're all worried about him."

A major source of pain for Earnhardt is his stunning drop from the top of the NASCAR heap. He jumped ship from his father's NASCAR team in 2007 after fighting with his father's widow Teresa over control of the team.

He joined the powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports team, which a source described as "like signing on as a free agent with the New York Yankees."

But he has just one win since joining the team, and team owner Rick Hendrick reportedly isn't happy with his performance.

"On race days lately, when Dale should have been up and ready to win, he instead seemed listless, morose and disturbingly unfocused," a close source told The ENQUIRER.

"One NASCAR writer was shocked to hear that Dale was found alone, weeping, after a poor finish in a race. Another time, he punched a wall of a trailer and screamed profanities.

"Dale has never recovered from the loss of his father, and sometimes it seems like he has no interest in continuing his racing career."

You people act like the National Enquirer is not a legitimate news source. Where do you keep up with the Bigfoot news then? :D

Years ago my grandmother actually subscribed to that thing! Of course, she also believed every word that came out of Geraldo Rivera's mouth.

I would read the Inquirer and get to laughing so hard my ribs hurt and the tears ran down my face.

I just think it's funny that they're running stories about Dale Jr now.

What? With Michael Jackson dead you've got nothing else to publish? I would have figured Jackson being dead would mean they'd run MORE articles about him. You know, the ones where he's really alive and pregnant with Elvis's baby.

:XXROFL:

Well, they did break the story about Limbaugh's drug addiction.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if there is some truth to that story. Every time they show Junior on TV at the track he doesn't look like he's having any fun.

Sr was a icon in the sport. No way will Jr, or anyone else, fill his shoes. He had a tremendous weight put on him to continue the Earnhardt legacy as the son of a 7 time of Cup Champion.

Death of a parent affects us all, death of a parent who was a icon in your profession has to have a serious negative effect on your motivation.

IMHO of course.

Same old crap. Wonder what will be said when Jr. comes back strong next year.

Of course this is a joke we all know JR personaly and we know that JR would never do this. Whats next are they going to say some back marker like Jeremy Mayfield has been doing drugs this whole time as well haha crazyness.

I think the only reason Jr. was even driving in NASCAR was because his dad wanted him to. Now that Sr. is gone it seems that Jr.'s will to win is gone also. Jr.'s problem is that he never was "hungry".

Okay, we all know how reliable the Inquirer is, but they also broke the story about my former senator and hopeful presidential candidate, John Edwards. Probably 99% of the people, including Edwards, didn't believe that story, but look at it now. I'm not sitting her saying that rag has much credibility, but one only has to look at the last three or four years in Dale Jr's life. Maybe you haven't heard of his wild parties, but I have. Maybe they aren't as often as this story might like you to believe, but if you don't think that he drinks to excess, you're pretty naive. I've watched in interest his interviews and have found them to be more and more morose. Yes, he's had a run of bad luck, but as the story says, driving for Hendricks should be one of the best rides in town. Rick has four teams and look where the other three are. Nuff said about that. All I'm saying is that while this story might be full of holes, there is ample evidence to suggest that there is more right about it than wrong.

I would say that almost all of the stuff from them is BS but once in a blue moon they do put something true in there.

He just doesn't seem like he cares about racing.

i think jr's problem is that racing for him just isn't any fun. he will never escape his dad's shadow and isn't the type of driver his dad was to be that successful. he's basically a nice guy doing what is expected of him. i predict that within five years he will be gone (as a driver) from sprint cup competition by his choice.

His average for ten years of racing after Homestead is 12th. For just the last five years that number slips to 15th. He isn't a whole lot worse than that now.

"We all know JR. personaly" ? Just because you see a lot of him on TV does not mean you know him.

Hmmm, an average finish of 12 th. That puts him right alongside of Tony stewart who has a career average finish of 12.5. :D

btw, reading the previous post to mine. Where do all the non-experts come from. :)

You might want to change the battery in your calculator. Stewart has a season end average finsh of 5.27. He has only finished out of the top ten once, and that year he was 7th in points accumulated. Dale has only finished in the top ten four times in the same amount of years.

Race by race average finish for Dale is 16.8 and Tony's average is 12.5.

Where do all the non-experts come from? :D

LMAO, you are the person that posted the average finish for Jr of 12 th, not me. all of a sudden he is now 16.8. :D I posted tony's average finish of 12.5.

Season end average standing in the points of 5.27 for Tony. After the last race that is, as in at the end of the year.

Jr should be so lucky!

Don't confuse The National Enquirer with some of the other rags sold on supermarket shelves. Don't believe everything in the Enquirer, but don't write it off either. They have broken a lot of legitimate news stories (then again, a dead clock is right twice a day:rolleyes:)

Once again, Junyer's on track performance isn't the problem. He just keeps getting swept up in everyone else's wrecks.

Not just trying to take Jr. down...I'm really a fan of his, but I found it very interesting that all of his teammates finished 1, 2, 3 in points and he was no where to be found.

Here's a list of just some of the drivers who finished ahead of him in the points.

Rookies Ambrose and Lagano, A.J. Allmendinger, McMurray, Truex, and the entire RCR crew...Burton, Bowyer, Harvick and Mears. Might as well throw in the others that didn't make the Chase, Kyle Busch, Kenseth and Reutimann.

Mabey Jr should stop hitting the wall

He hit the wall right in front of me like four times and yet he continued to ride the the wall. If I had been driving the 88 I might have tried different lines. Maybe JR is affraid of running up the track and hitting the wall. Dunno!

I counted at least 3 times this year where he missed his pit.
I can't count how many times he slammed into wall on his own.

Theresa was right. He's got to decide if he want to be a racer or Michael Waltrip.

How easy it is to "bash Jr" when he is going through a difficult off-year.

A driver who has had end of year point rankings of:

3
5
5
8
11
12

Any idiot knows that you don't finish a season ranked 3rd or 5th in points unless you have some talent. Then, there are people that just like to stomp a driver when he is down.

You left out 16th, 12th and 25th the last three years. There IS something going on with Jr and I hope someone figures it out.
