Yes, and somebody at Wrangler must have on drugs when they came up with that idea. That mustache personified the "One Tough Customer" image that Wrangler was trying to cultivate in the first place. Notice that the clean shaven Earnhardt didn't last very long at all. I'm not sure it even lasted til Daytona. I remember the first time I saw the print ad and and thinking "who the hell is THAT guy?"
