It is a good possibility that Penske will hire David for the 22 car for 2012.......David has a better record this year than other possibilities that drove for cup.......If I were Penske I would grab him and sign for a one year contract and see what pans out.I believe he would do well. What say you?

24 -- Joey Logano 902 -1501 36 2 0 4 6 3,856,010

Since David and Brad are close in age I believe they would get along just fine...They both have already said they were good friends....David is 26 and Brad is 27 so what is in the way of a contract...To my understanding David has already got a contract release from Roush, do you know different and what do you think of this approach? l

I keep calling the Captain to tell Put Ragan in The Car!........butt I keep getting put on hold :(

I personaly think Davids the Best prospect out there right now and would work well in the organization. Hate to see him in a Dodge though :(

Ah Flash, that's the reason I'm interested in who Penske gets for the 22, I'm a Dodge fan from a way back but you and I can still be friends :)....I realize Dodge is lagging somewhat but I am loyal to Dodge and would pull for them if they never ever won a race...:D....All I got to say is ABEC (any brand except chevy)

Sorry flash, you're dialing the wrong number. I keep thinking you're a telemarketer, so I just put you on hold and continued my conversation with Roger.

He agrees. David 'brain fart' Ragan or Scott 'nails' Speed as one year place holders, Stenhouse or Vickers for a chance at a long term ride.

Hornish has a free pass to the seat of the 22 - if he can show Roger he's ready, willing and able!

A stellar 2012 in N'wide would do that!

And, Flash, WTF is wrong with MOPAR? You hate the Yodas, disparage the Rams, don't like Blue Ovals...I suppose you wear a Bow Tie to every race, right? ;)

i dont understand why people keep mentioning Stenhouse and Bayne for the 22. They are the top Roush development drivers. He isnt gonna let the 2011 Daytona 500 winner and the 2011 Nationwide Series Champion get away so soon. They are under contract with Roush and i'm sure they'll stay that way for a while. They are the future of Roush Racing.

Well yeah you could say that especially since they sign my paychecks.

For the same reason Jack let David Ragan out of his contract. Jack can't provide a ride for both drivers in NW next year. He has committed to Bayne fulltime next year, but isn't sure he can do ANYTHING to get Ricky some races in NW or Cup.

Any attorney will cite Rickys right to work, full time, in his field of expertise as a reason with plenty of case law to throw the contract out. All Ricky would need is a letter of intent to put him in a fulltime ride, and Jack would have to put up or release him. IF Ricky was dumb enough to sign a personal services contract, he's screwed.

Roush has'nt even been able to secure sponsorship for the 17 next year, and it was FOURTH in the standings this year!
Damn Economy has virtualy killed short track racing and is starting to hit the Big Boys too :(

I'd say that David R is close to the only choice for Penske at this time and I believe he would fit right in and do a good job.....And I agree with you, Stenhouse is already in the Roush contract and I can't see a NW Champ leaving Jack...The absolute only other driver that might fit the bill and work with BK and is in the learning curve is Parker Kligerman...It MUST be a driver that don't believe he knows it all and can work and take constructive criticism from all concerned......that's my story and I'm sticking to it....:beerbang::)

interesting google search for David Ragan crash turns up a lot more pictures of actual crashes then Vickers.

And the guy they called crashalotski rarely wrecks out. 3 of his 6 crash DNF's came from getting caught up in RP wrecks.

Ragan has already had a shot with a big dollar sponsor, and team. He is a good kid, if Penske wants an average driver (a skill set between p15-p25) that's a nice guy, David Ragan is the man.
But, I would run Hornish first and develop in the NWS both for 2012.

Better yet, I would even try to get Ward Burton, and at least pretend to care about performance
Good grief Michael Waltrip had a better run in the DEI cars than Ragan has had with RFR.

Before running Ragan, I would pick about 30 local short track champs for one race gigs, and road race with ringers

AND...Roger has two drivers that he is already committed to . Was he wrong in keeping Kligerman and Hornish on the payroll ? Maybe he can justify putting an A list driver into the car before one of them but how does he justify putting a guy like Stenhouse or Bayne in (even if he could get one of them ) . I don't see the point.

I am still not sure why people are so high on Sam Hornish, Jr. all of a sudden.

It's not the fact that he an accomplished NASCAR Driver (obviously) but that he a Championship Caliber driver (IRL Champion, 2006) who is certainly capable of driving a CUP Car. He has a highly successful relationship with Pennzoil, the sponsor of the 22 car (and we all know how important sponsor-driver relationships are, right, Kyle?) who is already under contract with Penske.

It just makes sense on many levels. He may not be Jimmie Johnson yet (or even Kurt Busch) but he's not gonna be Joey Logano either. I would bet that right now Sam could hold his own with David Ragan, Brian Vickers, David Reutimann, Trevor Bayne or Ricky Stenhouse in a CUP Car.

Does that help, Spike?

How do you know he's not going to be a Logano? You say he could hold his own with a bunch of unproven drivers. So that makes him... an unproven driver.

But my point, oh wise KG, is that the names most often associated with the vacant seat in the 22 (at least on this forum) are Ragan, Vickers, Bayne and Stenhouse.

Didn't Hornish's DAD fight a battle for him when he was in Indy????He very well could be a Logano in more ways than 1.:D

I'm certainly not high on Sam . I think that (like all of the others) he's a B list driver that could blossom under the right circumstances into an A list driver. How can Roger justify bypassing him for another B list driver?

Ragan's proved himself and ran well. Won at Daytona last year. Yes he had a Bigtime sponsor who left Not because of Ragan but because their cutting back their sponsorship. Yes Roush is a big team but David was definately their 4th team and was treated that way as far as support, equipment and persoel. David's a good Young driver ( 25 ) I think he has yet to show his True Potential.

FlFlash I hope you are right, I honestly would enjoy having to eat my words regarding the likable D.Ragan.

About Hornish, I am not that big on him either, but Penske apparently has him slotted as a big part of his future line-up. If that is indeed the case I would play those cards now, and avoid a lame duck 2012.

I just don't think there's a solid Kasey Kahne one year lame duck available, and I wouldn't let Lagano's case set precedent. Lagano stepped in at JGR at 18, and very much a boy who is still trying to establish himself as a man. I think he has the potential, but time that was his friend is now becoming less of a freind with every tick.

Back to Hornish, he has been at this a while now and he wasn't an 18 y/o Lagano or even a Ragan walking in the door. With a good seat getting cold I wouldn't write off 2012, hoping that helps 2013.

I would take a driver in 2012 to Daytona that I believed was my best shot, or at least the one who was my long term keeper.

But Penske might know more about the case than me, maybe even more about running a team, stranger things have happened.

Wins at the Plate Races don't mean sh!t - at least not to me.
Can you say Trevor Bayne?

It took Dale Earnhardt how many years to Win at Daytona???

Trevor is a hell of a lil driver also but he needs some more time in Nationwide before he makes the move.

So what's your point, Flash? That it's hard to win a plate race? I agree! Cause dumb luck plays into the outcome more times than not...

And thanks for rollin my eyes back, FB. I was looking for them! ;)
