Well this was lost around here on the real news of yesterday. Days of Thunder is my favorite racing movie ever, I hope the I’s are dotted and T’s crossed soon because I need another epic Hans Zimmer score blaring as a stock car zooms out of Turn 4

I'm so apprehensive about movies like this. Sometimes it just makes all nascar fans and teams look like dumb rednecks

62 year old Tom is a stretch any way it is sliced. His ego wouldn't let himself be a crew chief. I think it could be painful.

I see him being the wise driving coach

That's the way it could have a chance of working but I don't think Tom's ego would let him play that role. He would have to be the star. I could be wrong, but how many films has he been a supporting actor? Personally, I don't think he is as good an actor as Robert Duvall

Say what you want about Tom Cruise but he's one of the few that deeply cares about the cinema and putting out a quality product. If the story isn't right or there's a chance it's not gonna come across positively, he won't do it. Which is why Top Gun 1 and 2 had such a large gap in between. And they nailed it. He continues to outdo himself with the MI franchise with each installment as well. I trust him.

This is interesting. Look at how he handled the long awaited sequel to Top Gun. It was natural for him to be cast as a special instructor, actually flying, despite the fact nobody at his actual age would likely do that. He plays a younger age well. For DOT2, that same angle doesn’t seem logical. Could the storyline be about a former champion who has lost a step or two, falls from grace, is out of racing…then gets one last chance with a new team formed by (fill in the blank..dramatic previous connection either good or bad)? Can he overcome his previous demons? Can he drive this newer complex and DANGEROUS car? Can he return to his previous days of thunder and glory?

Just hope they keep it more realistic and less video game.

Yea for those dumping on his age, he’s an actor he makes it believable he could still be driving a car at his advanced age. Maybe not at 62 but drivers from when his character in the first movie would have been competitive routinely drove into their mid 50’s. I think he could pull that off just fine in this. I would find it believable Trickle would be in a fair well season or just recently retired if that route is chosen, but you just know there’s going to be a hot shoe that is coming up that is either a.) rival to Trickle or b.) needs Trickle guidance. I just hope Robert Duval plays a small part in it, he was awesome in the first one.

I just need a scene like this as they’re piecing together their parts from vendors/NASCAR to build Trickle’s Next Gen Car.

They won't be able to duplicate the originality of this scene with these actors in this time period, the same as top gun is a movie unto it's own on originality, Maverick is it's own standalone, this will have to be too. I hope they can nail it because I am dying for a good nascar movie to be done, and days of thunder is about as close as we've got imo. The sound effects of the single car engine noise make it for me.

I am trying not to be skeptical and I hope it will be better than I am expecting.

But who is going to be the Nicole Kidman for this movie. Good eye candy adds to the integrity in just about all asspects of life.

Adding a wondrous woman to the cast might be interesting . . .
