Daytona 500 - Rate the race

Exactly. Greg never made a passing attempt, much like Matt did for David last year.

It's hard to know if you're capable of making a pass if you don't even try. He never moved out of line. He never tried to pass Kenseth. On every restart, he let Kenseth get right in front of him. When Biffle was ahead of Kenseth on restarts, he never tried to pass him. He gave the win to Kenseth.

Team orders BS.

So, are we now done with the same old tired "anyone can win a restrictor plate race" 'cause they're unpredictable crap?

When Borris is coming after him maybe. Could we got a photo of those eyes?

During Jr.'s and Greg's press interviews both indicated that there was no brake dragging and that they did everything they could do to get up to the 17.
Thats where they went wrong Biffle Should have brake dragged on the backstraight backed him and Jr. off of Kenseth several car lenghts then made a run at him thru 3/4 with Jr's help. They needed a run to get by him no way they could just pull out and power by Kenseth was to strong!

You think Biffle is that smart? Think again.

I will give the race a 7. The lap 2 crash was a bummer for me, but overall I enjoyed the race. I wish someone besides Hamlin could have made the second lane work. Drivers could not catch the front, but get knocked out of that second line, and free fall to the back of the pack.
Just a side note, the fuel from the jet dryer was diesel fuel. I've seen references to jet fuel and kerosene, but what those run on is straight diesel. The same fuel that is used by F15 fighters is the same fuel used by the NASCAR haulers. If it would have been JP4, the fire would have been 100x as intense, and much more explosive. On the replays, it was the high pressure water hose that finally extinguished the fire, not the foam from the extinguishers. Those just did the job of keeping the flames from spreading to the pool of fuel at the bottom of the track.

Thanks for the explanation. Whatever it was that did the job, those guys/gals deserve a great big thanks for getting the out and in turn getting that track race ready again. In watching that happen I never thought I'd see that race run to it's intended conclusion. Great job by all involved.

It was an amazing job the crews did on getting the track back in shape. Once the race restarted, that area of the track did not cause a problem. The crews who put out that fire showed some real guts getting as close as they did with extinguishers. At onepoint there is a pretty good explosion that happens, the crews were pretty far down the embankment at that point. I'm happy no one was hurt, that could have easily been a real tragedy.

You have to wonder what will be the ultimate outcome of all of that heat on the track surface. I wonder what it could have done to the temper to the Safer Barrier? Who know? I bet there will be plenty of work done in that area before we're back there in July.

The spot I'd really be worried about is right where the truck was. That is where the most heat damage would be. Another issue possibly is the gouge left in the track when the loader was dragging part of the jet dryer down the track. I'm sure it was being inspected at first light yesterday morning.

I think that we'll all be reading more on this soon. The track will surely release a statement on this.

I was wondering why that white styrofoam behind the wall didn't melt or shrivel up Robby ?

It did they replaced several of the foam stacks that go between the concrete wall and the barrier, thats one of the reasons the red Flag lasted a bit over two hours. They also inspected the fencing and cable anchors along with the track repairs and clean up. there was Alot going on over there. They did a Great Job of getting it raceable.
Local rumor is they will be repaveing that area of the track before the 4th.

Thats what this forum is for, to allow Fans to voice their opinions and thoughts about NASCAR racing.

My Opinion is Biff should have trail braked with E pushing him dropped back and attempted a run at Kenseth, thats pretty much the only way i saw anyone make a pass all race long......Obviousley thats Just My Opinion....But then again what Biffle did sure as hell did'nt work now did it?

IMO, Biffle didn't make a move because he was afraid to mess up Jack's great day. If everyone remembers last year, the message was clear. Fords help Fords. Helping Jr get in front of Matt wouldn't be popular in Jack's kingdom.

I think I'll give it an 8. Really don't like the survival of the luckiest races, but I do admire Nascar and Fox for staying with it and showing the race on primetime, even on a weeknight.

Don't think the Roush guys are the only ones who think like that. Junior just didn't have any Hendrick guys left to help him.

I must be missing something here. Am I wrong or does somebody push somebody else to a win EVERY year?
