I hear you, but this is a sport based on a level playing field. Is there any place on the calendar where the playing field is more level than Daytona?....and to have the very expression of what NASCAR is on the race to determine who will run for the championships seems fitting IMO.I like Daytona and I know I'm probably in the minority with this but I think this is possibly the worst place we could have for a the regular season finale. Do we really want to decide who ends up in the playoffs at a track that a driver must rely on "help" from others to win and it's been shown literally anyone can win here? From an entertainment standpoint its good, but from a competition standpoint I don't care for it.
Unless your name is Truex or Blaney, if you make the playoffs only by winning at Daytona on the last night, you’re not getting past the first round anyway.I hear you, but this is a sport based on a level playing field. But is it worth keeping 2 guys out of the playoffs that can potentially make a deep run because someone else won at Daytona on the last night?Unless your name is Truex or Blaney, if you make the playoffs only by winning at Daytona on the last night, you’re not getting past the first round anyway.
What do the rules say?But is it worth keeping 2 guys out of the playoffs that can potentially make a deep run because someone else won at Daytona on the last night?
Truex and to some extent Blaney have shown all season they probably wont be making a deep run even if they made the playoffs. Blaney has been consistent and is 3rd in the standings but he will be in such a hole when the reset happens due to playoff points and wins that I dont see his stay lasting long even if he makes it.But is it worth keeping 2 guys out of the playoffs that can potentially make a deep run because someone else won at Daytona on the last night?
Not to me, but then it’s been years since I thought the Daytona oval was worth running at all. I don’t have the power to change the rules or the schedule. But is it worth keeping 2 guys out of the playoffs that can potentially make a deep run because someone else won at Daytona on the last night?
Quit making sense and talking reality. Go full gerbil..This driver came out of nowhere, think Cinderella team, can they go all they way...points matter.Unless your name is Truex or Blaney, if you make the playoffs only by winning at Daytona on the last night, you’re not getting past the first round anyway.
Unless I'm looking at the points wrong Blaney would currently be 8th in the playoff standings, so I think that gives him a legitimate chance.Truex and to some extent Blaney have shown all season they probably wont be making a deep run even if they made the playoffs. I don't understand why there is supposed to be a difference between an entertainment standpoint and a competition standpoint. From an entertainment standpoint its good, but from a competition standpoint I don't care for it.
3rd in the standings would get Blaney 11 playoff points, he definitely has the chance to have a good run.Truex and to some extent Blaney have shown all season they probably wont be making a deep run even if they made the playoffs. Maybe. I wouldnt bet the farm on it though. There are faster teams (as of now) that will get much needed wins plus playoff points when it matters. I do agree its preposterous at 3rd in regular season points he could miss the playoffs entirely, his regular season should count for something when its all said and done, not be at the mercy of Casino Daytona.I don't understand why there is supposed to be a difference between an entertainment standpoint and a competition standpoint.
If there is a good competition it will provide entertainment.

Racing is a competition.I don't understand why there is supposed to be a difference between an entertainment standpoint and a competition standpoint.

I'm very entertained by the competition of auto racing.Racing is a competition.
Entertainment is hitting people with folding chairs. Make sense?
Thats why when a World Series or NBA Finals goes 7, its a very special and rare occurrence.Ever notice how many stick-and-ball playoffs don't go all seven games? Nobody in their front offices seems concerned about changing their systems when one team wins 4-0.
Cars dont wreck themselves. ChoicesI can think of no better way to guarantee a wreckfest than to schedule the championship cutoff race at a plate track. I'll set the over / under on GWCs at 2.5.
Checking WHO 13 Des Moines, and they are showing the Cup race on their network.NBC affiliates that may have NFL conflicts in case you want to check your local listings…the race is getting moved to the CW here, looks like Peacock is also simulcasting it:

KPNX 12 Phoenix
WRCB 3 Chattanooga

Well I hope you already got your tickets considering its sold outDaytona has installed LED scoring pylons. Finally. I've been begging for them to do that for years, the old ones were so outdated.
Unfortunately for me, I just moved from Tampa to AZ last month so no Daytona for me for a while. Super bummed. On the bright side maybe I can catch this final 4 this year in Phoenix lol.
I think it’s on WMOR 32.1 out there, I’ll have to check again as I may be watching over on that side this weekend.Well that sucks! WFLA 8 Tampa can KMA.
Yeah was already planning to go the resell route. They aren't too terribly pricedWell I hope you already got your tickets considering its sold out
I think Truex would also be around 9th with the reset, he has the most stage wins this season.Unless I'm looking at the points wrong Blaney would currently be 8th in the playoff standings, so I think that gives him a legitimate chance.
Yes, because they had 26 other races to get into the playoffs. If they are not in by now, then what makes you think they would have any more of a chance for a deep run than anyone else? But is it worth keeping 2 guys out of the playoffs that can potentially make a deep run because someone else won at Daytona on the last night?
Because their results show they're top 5 cars..............Yes, because they had 26 other races to get into the playoffs. If they are not in by now, then what makes you think they would have any more of a chance for a deep run than anyone else?
Tracks don't schedule themselves. NASCAR makes choices too. Daytona delivers big ratings, and one (the main?) reason is because casual fans like big multi-car wrecks. NASCAR didn't have to make this the cutoff race, but NBC on a Saturday night before college ball starts, ya know?Cars dont wreck themselves. Choices
No, you are right it doesnt have to be a cutoff race but money matters in this sport and you need A LOT of it and TV helps keep it aliveTracks don't schedule themselves. NASCAR makes choices too.
