Daytona Pre-Race Race Thread (Monday Edition)

I've e-mailed and called a friend in Ormand this morning, guess some people work or something. Anyway as of last night around 9 he doubted seriously they would race today, maybe tonight.

Daytona Beach Airport forecast has everything clearing out by 6pm tonight, so 7pm looks like it will hold...

i like that they're doing a night race. may save some engines. hopefully it will be similar to the shootout in excitement. they need a good race to overcome the disappointment caused be the rain delay.

Another wreckfest? How is that exciting?

Temperature at green flag should be about 68 degrees, dropping to 65. That should alleviate engine temp concerns.

Still, if I were racing tonight I'd be dropping to the rear with some buddies to avoid the early carnage.

If it makes it tonight it will be a slip n slide track for awhile! No rubber on the track at all.

it doesn't have to be a wreckfest, although it probably will be. i'll take pack racing any day over tandem racing.

I didn't see much pack racing, since there was usually 2 or 3 feet between cars. Even that made the cars too hard to handle. NASCAR went so far trying to kill the tandem, they watered down the pack.

I found it really funny when Larry Mack watched the KB pass at the shootout and proclaimed "With tandem racing, the pushing car COULD NOT WIN". WTF? In case nobody noticed, Kyle and Tony were TANDEM racing.
Kez and Carl, Harvick and McMurray, Bowyer and Burton, Tony and KB in the interstate car, etc, etc. Tandem racing produced way more turn 4 passes for the win than pack racing has.

This makes me happy! The only way I could have watched it today would have been to sneak into the conference room from time to time. Now, I get to watch the whole thing!

SportsCenter Special airs at 3P ET on ESPN2, getting you ready for anticipated 7P start to Daytona 500.

John Cena has a choice to make.

lol, Cena has probably already left. The Rock is going to be on Raw tonight for the first time in months so there's no chance that Cena won't be at Raw.

So see, this is all Cena's fault! Someone, somewhere, didn't want Cena waving the green flag and they got what they wanted! lol

Feel for those that laid out the cash but had to leave because of work.

It sucks! It happened to me in Texas one year. I actually watched the first 2 laps in a bar at DFW on Monday Morning - then I had to board my plane...

The only saving grace for some may have been if they had bought the event ticket insurance. The following is from Daytona's ticket page.....

Insurance Benefits

Event Ticket Insurance offers you greater peace of mind with an Event Ticket purchase by insuring you against unforeseen circumstances. With Event Ticket Insurance, you can rest assured that your financial loss will be covered if you can't attend an event for any of following covered reasons:
  • Illness or Serious Injury - preventing the you or an event companion from being able to use the event ticket, or if a family member is hospitalized or requires care by you
  • Traffic accidents - which could prevent you from getting to an event
  • Mechanical Breakdown - if your car breaks down within 48 hours of the event
  • Airline delay - if your plane or other common carrier is delayed (includes bad weather) while going to the event
  • Home or Business Issues - if your home or business is uninhabitable due to fire, flood, vandalism, burglary or natural disasters
  • Care for a family member - serious injury to a family member, requiring you to provide care
  • Employer Termination - providing protection against a lay-off
  • Jury Duty - if you are required to serve on jury duty after having purchased an event ticket
  • Required to Work - if your employer requires you to work during the event
  • Work Relocation - if you are relocated by your company over 100 miles from your home
  • Military Duty - if you are required to miss an event as a result of military orders
  • Death - if you, an event companion, or immediate family member passes away

If anything tonights' race will be interesting if they are able to go the entire 200 laps. I think most teams will be very carefull at the begining with a green track. I'm hoping it doesn't become a "who can survive the last wreck" type race like the Trucks and NW races, but I think that will happen. I just hope Nascar "really" learns something from these three plate races and makes adjustments to make the racing better for Dega, unfornately I have a lot of doubts that will happen. Reflecting back a week I think I got overly excited that there wasn't much Tandem only racing in the Shootout, that was short lived after all that has transpired in the last nine days. I hope it is a good race tonight and I am still looking forward to watching it because it is Cup racing at Daytona.

Yep, Cena has already left and will not wave the green flag tonight.

 They just added to the planning commission agenda, it's gonna run to midnight and I have to be up at 6 tomorrow. In all this, I will miss the 500. I will not be in a good mood for the next few days.

Every Wednesday @ noon est, SPEED replays the previous week's CUP race, so if they do, in fact, run the race Monday or Tuesday, it will be replayed on Wednesday so you can set your DVR to record it.

Don't fret, Andy! It will all be OK! ;)
