Morning! Nothing starts off the first day of the season like a cup of joe in 'The Big One'!

Here's to a good day of racing @ Daytona.....

Nice cup. :p

Can't wait to settle in and watch the 500! :D

Thanks, it's only used for Daytona. A buddy of mine got that for me when he went there for his first race about 10 or so years ago.

Glad to hear someone else is looking forward to this race. I thought I might be the only one. I hope they get this race in today.

I'm mostly looking forward to it because I hardly watched a cup race last season. Been a fan for uh...how old am I? Oh yes, 25, so 25 years. :p

Anyway I've mostly been watching to see how the fuel injection and other changes play out.

I watched the shootout and it was a good race imo, if the 500 is as good I'll be happy. I just hope the coverage isn't too bad.

If its a snooze fest I'll do just that. I've developed that NASCAR fan sixth sense that I'm sure a lot of you have. I basically sleep and manage to wake up around the time something interesting happens. ;)

Damn you anyway NWS.....

Not good :(.

Reminds me of going to the Martinsville races as a kid. The dates for those always fell on a weekend when it rained without fail. I forget how many of those we went to that got rained out. I remember one year we watched this guy attempt to drive a station wagon up a muddy hill for about an hour. :D

We stopped parking in the main area after awhile. We parked behind the train tracks and came in crossing the train tracks on foot. Best parking you could get before they re-did the back stretch.

Adding a slicker track , now that'll get their attention in a hurry .Better try to stay awake Hilbilly.

Martinsville has long since revamped their parking. Still not the best but not nearly as bad as it once was. We go there each year for the fall event. It is one of the few races that we don't camp at the track. That's mainly because we can't get there early enough during the week. We normally roll into that parking lot between 6-7am and park by the souvenir vendors and tailgate all day. After the race we have dinner in the parking lot and watch all of the people try to get the heck outta there.

We have a couple more years until we are going to head down to Daytona for Speedweeks. We'll be camping @ that track as we'll do it up right. There's no better way or experience of a NASCAR race than you can get in an RV. I've met lifelong friends in the RV lots at NASCAR venues.

Where's the damn dislike button?

How does Nascar handle their rain outs when they have another race the following weekend on the other side of the map? Do they postpone it, or schedule a makeup date later in the season?

As long as things are still done like back in the day they typically schedule the race for later in the season. They leave a few dates open for that purpose.

I loved Monday races when I was a kid, one of the few reasons why I was ever allowed to lay out of school. ;)

Tracks that have lights like Daytona are much easier .They will run it tonite if they can , or Monday afternoon ,or Monday nite or Tuesday afternoon, etc. I don't remember the last time they had to run it later in the year due to weather . I remember them doing that due to 9-1-1 and maybe due to Florida forest fires , but for weather , they normally get to it during the week sometime.

Its been a long time but I've seen a few delayed by months due to rain, I forgot about the lights though! Way back when they didn't have that option. :)

BTW green flag drops at 12:29pm EST. :)

They changed the start time from 1:29 to 12:29?

I heard 12:29pm on ESPN2. If I'm wrong I'm sorry, hearing is bad. But I swear I heard 12:29 and not 1:29 :D

Edit: Just checked, its 1:29pm

It's scheduled for 1:29 but the rain will hit before then. :(

NASCAR drivers are like baseball players, if it rains they don't come out to play. The fans on the other hand are like football fans, they sit in the stands no matter what. :D

Hopefully the rain isn't an issue. I invited friends over to watch the race for the first time in years, I'd hate to see this get rained out. Sky looks pretty bad at the track on TV right now :(

Thank's for the info guys. I think most of the Nascar teams have two drivers in a truck. But I don't know when they have to park in Phoenix.

But I also think they have more than one hauler, and most wouldn't have a problem sending that second hauler and car off before the Daytona one got back to the shop.

I'm not an expert on this but I know its a bigger problem for most teams when the next race is out west. If the race is in or close to North Carolina it is less of a problem, as you can lose a day and still have everything ready for next race weekend. If the race is in California you need that extra day to get the car to the track.

IIRC they try to be at the track by Thursday.

Also bad news, its starting to rain at the track. Light rain, but rain none the less. :(

I'm excited for today, no matter what kind of racing it is, I can never not be excited about the Daytona 500. Today is better then Christmas morning for me. I'm even watching the speed raceday show while I do some stuff around the house. I'm just really hoping the weather holds out.

I wish I went again this year, I went to my first Daytona 500 last year and had a blast but I really want to go to another one in person that isn't the 2 car tandem racing.

I'm hoping that the cool temps keep rain from forming over the Gulf and the skies are clear by 2 or 3 pm. A Monday race would suck for a lot of people.

I just looked at the radar map. East coast weather sucks, as usual. We're grilling fish tacos and giant prawns today, in the sunshine. At least the day won't be a total waste.
More rain forecasted for tomorrow. Maybe they'll get the race in on Wednesday.
