DALLAS - Police now say alcohol and drugs might have been involved in an early morning accident that killed a Dallas teenager and sent another to the hospital in critical condition.
A 14-year-old girl, Tiaira Heckard, was killed and five other people were injured early this morning in a crash in southeast Oak Cliff.
The girl was a passenger in a Chevrolet sedan that lost control shortly before 2:30 a.m. and slammed into a light pole in the 6100 block of South Lancaster Road. The force of the impact uprooted the streetlight.
Vansavier Denmark, 18, who was driving the car, is in the intensive care unit at Baylor hospital, facing serious charges, including intoxicated manslaughter, intoxicated assault, driving without a license and without insurance.
Witnesses tell police he had been drinking and using marijuana before the crash. Investigators say they recovered a bag of marijuana at the crash site.
Police say Denmark was driving alongside another car at a high rate of speed. It's not clear if they had been racing.
The other four passengers in the car were hospitalized in unknown condition, though their injuries didn't appear to be life-threatening.
Police were investigating reports that a second car may have collided with the Chevy and left the scene.
Heckard, who was in the back seat, was not wearing a seat belt.

dont get me started. One of my friends was on the medicine cabinet at 14 yrs old, and parents didn't care.

The light pole was set in about 4 feet deep concrete footing. What I saw on the news, it literally pulled it completely out of the ground!!!
