Denny Hamlin Midseason Single Elimination Tournament

I'd be more open if this wasn't blatantly going after the sports gambling crowd. Those aren't fans. Dash 4 Cash works well in Xfinity.... wish we just did that. 4 drivers winner take all is a lot easier to follow. 10 years ago sports betting was a fringe taboo thing and leagues were totally against it. Now it's a massive driver for sports and getting younger fans in. Which I find absolutely hilarious given casino gambling is totally and utterly dead to anyone born after... gosh... 1985 or so... yet that's the demographic that jettisoned the horse out of the barn once that door was cracked open.

And I'm young, I enjoy casino gambling, and sports gambling. But it's gross how MASSIVE sports betting has become. Y'all should look at some of these NASCAR sportsbook options... it is sooooo ridiculous. Bet on the over/under # of cautions, stage 1 winner finishing position, heck if you really wanna light your money on fire... pick a group of 3 guys to all finish top 5, bet on the margin of victory, bet on the highest finisher for each manufacturer. This is just going to add to that insanity.

How many podcasts on sports gambling are out there? There's a select, but rapidly growing group of sports fans watching purely for their bets, not the game.

I think Hamlin did a really good job engaging fans with the bracket challenge and selling them on the idea last summer. The broadcast partners have a big influence on it too though. The NBA IST helped TNT’s viewership quite a bit compared to what they would previously get early in the season, and now that’s a big part of what Amazon’s new NBA package will be centered on. It’s not a coincidence they’re both involved together here in a portion of the season that usually has a bit of a lull before the playoff race really heats up.

The great thing is if nobody told you this is going on you wouldnt know as far as the racing goes. If people want to throw away their money at the casino or other betting sites , have at it. I'm sure there will be hundreds of free bracket challenges we will be able to play, sounds like fun to me. To each his own I guess

There are SEVERAL channels on my TV lineup that are solely sports gambling shows.

Yes you are right it will have no effect on the racing. But... I think it tells you the direction that the broadcast and media partners want to go. Coverage for all sports is rapidly moving towards embracing the gambling angle. If this is what Turner and Amazon think they need to do to raise subscription numbers... hang on because it would become an annoying focus that takes away from the actual sports content.

Here I am yelling at clouds again.

I'm not at all against this and don't know why fans are.

TNT is gonna draw the short stick when it comes to the schedule and the races they air anyway, so bring on the gimmick.

I have a feeling Amazon's coverage will be transformative with how heavy their focus is on AWS analytics and data.

TNT needs a draw. Last time TNT was a partner, the only draw they had was the summer Daytona race, which is now in August and will probably stay in August.

You're right, Turner and Amazon will play it up, I expect them to come out with a cash prize for fans who play and win or finish top 10

I think there are some really valid concerns about the degree to which sports betting has taken off - particularly prop betting. We’ve actually already had an NBA player banned for life as a result this year. And I don’t think sports consumption simply revolving around your bet slips is healthy either, but I think some added intrigue around a simple bracket challenge is pretty harmless. I wouldn’t expect it to materially impact how these guys approach races, just give the results a bit more significance.
 
Sounds too much like NBA's In-Season Tournament. At least this one is a little more straightforward than that one.

I just think it's goofy to have playoffs and tournaments where the full field still participates after being "eliminated" from the competition. And if someone isn't watching now after all the other entertaining gimmicks they have added over the years, why would this be the one thing that finally attracts a new fan to the sport?

That being said, I really hope there's another season of the Netflix show, and if so, I think they could focus on this instead of the playoffs and it would be a hit. So I'll contradict myself and say if they do it right, it could definitely help attract new eyeballs.

Its just on paper, they really are still competing and not eliminated from racing, just the game.
 
There's no downside to this, it could be this generation's Winston Million. I'am already excited for this, I hope someone big sponsors it and its hammered home that a Million Dollars is on the line during the broadcasts. The only thing I ask is dont let Jeff Burton anywhere near this bracket, I dont think I can handle his high pitched squealing, its going to be a higher than normal octave. No thanks.

Look at how almost every Sports Youtuber now does an ad read for Draft Kings, or Underdog, or other Sportsbooks or Prop Bet Sites.

You can't escape from it.

I have no clue how even the Dash for Cash works....and I don't intend to find out. Agreed. Goofy. But whatever.....if it makes someone happy and enjoy the sport, so be it.

The dash for cash in Xfinity and the Trucks is super simple. The top 4 finishers are eligible for next week's race and whoever finishes the highest out of the four wins the money. Rinse and repeat for the four races the contest covers.
 
It makes absolutely no difference to me, will change nothing about the racing, the only winner is a rich driver who gets richer, but I don't see any losers so I am neither for or against it.

As they might. I have never understood where this complaint originates from. Back in the day some drivers would lap the whole field. Back markers have always done what back markers do. Maybe Nascar being the only major series to have "lucky dogs" is what started people thinking back markers shouldn't race or something. Hell if I know. They made Darlington much more interesting watching the leaders work the lap traffic on long green runs.

As far as this tournament goes, it's more of an observation than a complaint.

It's definitely a complaint when the playoffs roll around. In every other sport that uses playoffs, non-playoff teams or individuals aren't affecting the championship outcome. Guys with grudges aren't affecting the outcome; see Kenseth-Logano, for one.

I’m probably the only guy that watches all the races but doesn’t know how the playoff system works. I love watching the races and when one is over I look forward to the next one. I don’t care for the way Nascar crowns a championship but that does not impact my enjoyment of the races. Things like in season tournaments or gambling aren’t appealing to me but they shouldn’t impact the racing. I like NASCAR Cup racing and I will leave it at that 😀
 
How did everyone do? I didn't get a chance to watch the race myself.

So far I picked 5 wrong, but the matchups I was wrong I had the driver going out next round

What I missed:

42 defeated the 48
2 defeated the 23 (seriously who have called that?)
10 defeated the 12 (needed another gal of fuel)
3 defeated the 19 (didn't watch but I imagine the 19 had an issue?)
8 defeated the 4

I had the 2 beating the 23. But had the rest wrong that you did.
