Nice to read some level-headed comments about Dillon every now and then. The kid is still young, he's going to make mistakes, that goes without saying. Sure he's no Larson, but an average finish of 14th through the first eigth races ain't too shabby either. And let's be honest, Larson is starting to look like he'll become a generational talent with what he's managed to do in a Ganassi car so far. But to the guy who pointed out the fact that Dillon only has one Top 10 finish so far as a negative, he also has three finishes of 11th in his last 5 races. He could just as easily have had four Top 10 finishes in 8 races this season if he avoided some little mistakes, and that will come with experience.
But I gotta disagree with AJ being on that list. 1 top 5 and 3 Top 10's in 21 races in a Penske car the year Kez knocked off 5 wins en route to the championship doesn't say much for him. Especially when Joey Logano comes in the next year and starts ringing off consistent Top 5's and 10's in that car after most people were starting to write him off. Austin may never be a Top 10 driver in the Sprint Cup, but I can't understand all the flak he gets. Sure the prestige of winning a Nationwide championship has been severely diminished but it still takes a little bit of talent to win two of them in a row.
Maybe we were just too spoiled with a string of rookies who came into the sport in the early/mid '00's who were Top 10 drivers right off the bat. And maybe he does seem to be lacking that "killer instinct" someone like Larson has, but if he learns a bit more of the ol' give and take then I have no doubt he'll put together a handful of wins in his career.
