DIRECTV

You already know I love Directv.

I got my new internet turned on, on Sunday. Long story but I got Spectrum cable for my internet.

Glad you are back in order, Andy.

I have had Direct TV for most of the last 17 years or so and they are, by far, the best. I don't know if you can go back and catch it from the beginning, by the way, but the best show on television is a Direct TV exclusive series called Kingdom. I highly recommend it.

Does DirecTV offer an internet package? It wouldn't be the fastest of connections but it would possibly be an option.

It's not the speed, it's the data limits. I have a 40 gig hotspot from work, plus 10 gigs with AT&T. And my phone is unlimited data now, so I might be fine.

I don't want to hijack @AndyMarquisLive's post with a DirecTV vs. Dish war but I have to tell you, as a long time customer of both providers..... There's little difference between the two outside of the NFL Sunday Ticket package.

My fist venture into satellite television with with a BUD(Big Ugly Dish). 10' black wire mesh. I purchased it sometime in the mid 80's. That thing was awesome! At the time, nothing was scrambled. All of the premium channels were all available. Sports content had no commercials. You were able to pick up the same feed that was being feed back to the main broadcasting area for the channels, before it could be broadcast with commercials. NASCAR was able to be viewed flag to flag. That changed over time but we enjoyed many years of that.

Around 1991 or 1992 we switched to PrimeStar. They were much like DirecTV or Dish Network. Quality was good but that was the first of the package deals for channels and the beginning of high prices.

Around 1995 we moved to DirecTV and stayed with them for a long time. Their service was good but their long time customer loyalty wasn't. When they came out with their first DVR system we tried to upgrade wanting the same deal that they were giving new customers. They wouldn't do it, so we switched to Dish Network and got everything we wanted.

Later, as HD became available, we moved back to DirecTV and got the perks of a new customer again. HD capable receivers and a discounted price. Then, when they released their 'Whole Home' DVR system, we once again tried to get the same deal they were offering a new customer. Again, they wouldn't do it. Even though we had a couple months left on our contract we went back to Dish and got everything we wanted again with the free equipment upgrade and discounted pricing. For those couple months we had both services in our home. The quality of each was excellent and indistinguishable from one another.

Bottom line(s).....

They are both excellent services for anyone that is in a rural location or likes the portability that they offer. We RV and take the satellite system along with us. We also have a cabin about 60 miles NE of here in an even more rural location. The satellite receiver goes with us there to. With a dish and receiver, regardless of where we're at, we are capable of getting what we have at home.

Both DirecTV and Dish Network treat their loyal customers like crap when it comes to upgrades. The great thing is, once you've been away from one or the other for two years, you once again can get all of the perks of a new customer.

We use DirecTV at rental properties our company manages because we can get it cheaper in bulk than Comcast. I have Comcast at home. I never made use of our DirecTV account personally until I switched recently to AT&T Wireless from Verizon. Now because AT&T is pushing DirecTV so hard, they offer the ability to stream live DirecTV channels on your phone or tablet without using any data allotment. That's a very nice feature and it works quite well (at least where there is good 4G coverage). I used it to watch Supercross on FS1 and some 2016 sprint car races on MavTV today while I was out working and running errands. Can't beat that.

I don't have MAVTV on the DIRECTV app.

DIRECTV isn't bad and when they apply my AT&T unlimited discount, it will be $35. But my phone bill is $120, not because of AT&T but because of North Carolina taxes. Same deal last year with CenturyLink, my $60 bill ended up being $100 because of state taxes.

I hate this ****** state so much and can't wait to get out.

It didn't work for me when I tried it a couple weeks ago, but let me watch live today. I don't know why.

Let me pull it up now.

MAVTV kind of sucks. Wish it was in HD. It's better than nothing but looks like absolute **** on my TV.

EDIT: Nope no MAVTV on the app. Is it DVR maybe? It kind of sucks that you can't use your DIRECTV credentials for the online app either. Same flawed model CBS uses.

I know, it's actually better on a small mobile screen because of the SD quality. I just tried it again and now it says not available to watch live.

Might only be certain programs maybe. I know ARCA is coming to MAVTV. Again, better than nothing.

I watch a lot of SD programming. Boy Meets World and 7th Heaven come on a couple of SD-only Freeform-wannabe networks and I record those every day and watch and they're SD and look fine. But MAVTV looks like pure ****, can't read the ticker, can't see the car numbers or anything.

I was highly disappointed last night to realize that they never came out with a third season of Kingdom. I swear it was the best show out there. You can still see the two seasons that they did on demand on Direct TV but they just stopped at the end of 2015.

Yeah, that would b a problem.

If you like VIACOM channels, which I don't, Vue isn't an option. And you can't get local channels on there unless you're in some bigger markets -- but you can get access through ESPN, Fox Sports Go and NBC Sports app.

The AT&T Uverse service I have had for 3 or 4 years has inched up to $200 / mth.
Satisfied with the service , plenty of channels and good internet. I am just wondering
if that cost is too high. I see all the ads (Charter) offering $29/mth for this or that.
What do you budget for this service per month ?

Playstation Vue was pretty great at $35/month.

The biggest reason my AT&T bills are so high is because of state taxes.

I remember when DirecTv launched with there DBS systems, and to get the most channel possible, you had to subscribe to both DTV and USSB

Last time I looked at Dish's channel packages, that is where the difference come in play, I know at one time not too long ago, in order to have FS1/2, you had to get their sports package, but I could be wrong.

It's just not limited to DTV and Dish, ISP's are known for treating long time customers like crap, hell, might as well throw cell phone company's too, the days of being a long time customer and getting any benefits are long over.

We got DirecTV to lower our bill, by a good amount, it just took calling and saying we are leaving.

DirecTV refuses to carry the MAVTV HD feed. I signed up for the Lucas Oil TV streaming service and get most of those racing programs, some even live.
