:angry: What I want to know is why Scott Rolen of the Saint Louis Cardinals can be excited after hitting a homerun, following a slump, and use the words..."G Damn and Hell and it's funny and not recieve any penalties, fines, or any bad pubilicity...but Dale Jr is excited after winning a race and says **** and he gets the book thrown at him???!!!
 
I don't understand it either my friend, never have, never will.
 
NASCAR announced last evening that they indeed plan to fine Rolen $10,000 and take 25 championship points away from him. This will, in effect, keep Rolen in 73rd position in the NASCAR driver standings.

Rolen and the Cardinals plan to appeal the penalties.

EDIT: This just in...in addition to the penalties levied against Rolen, NASCAR has also placed Kurt Busch and Manny Ramirez on probation for the remainder of the season.
 
It is somehwat puzzling why Nascar is putting Busch on probation. His driving has improved, perhaps it is his attitude. Ramirez's probation is understandable, it would be for his non-performance in left field where he is about aggressive as a blindfolded turtle. :P

What's not to understand. Different sport different rules. :lol: If you moved to another country you live by their laws. If a MLB player goes to Nascar he plays by their rules. :cheers:
 
I'm sorry, but I honestly believe that ALL members in the wide world of sports who uses offensive language on TV SHOULD be fined.
Children look up to sports figures and many are their heroes. I can cuss and throw birds with best, but never in front of children.
Maybe the FCC needs to rate sporting events PG18.
 
Fining them is cool. But I don't think you'll ever see this headline in the news:

"From Hero's to Zero's; Colts 34-24 Win Taken Away After Manning Utters Expletive in Post Game Interview." ;)
 
And exactly WHEN was JR's win taken away? I missed that part. ;)

I see your point, but the situation is still apples to oranges in my opinion.
 
I was just trying to point out the result of taking points off the board after the fact.

If that had been the last race of the year, Jr would've done a victory lap as the Nextel Champion. (I know, I know, wishful thinking! :P )

Then two days later, he wouldn't be.

The possiblity still exists for the scenario you mentioned. Jr could slip up at the last race if he is in that position or maybe Kurt Busch, or Jeff Gordon slips one out. It would be interesting to see how NASCAR would react to that situation, not to mention the fans. :D

I don't think so. If Jr does end up winning the Championship. I will bet the bottom dollar he will watch his language in Victory Lane. :lol:

If the person winning the championship has a small points lead over the 2nd place finisher he would have to be pretty stupid to use a curse word. :blink:

Good grief!!!!! I don'r understand which part of the FCC ruling you don't get!!!!
FCC will fine networks $500,000 for these infractions. NASCAR chooses to try to protect their networks. maybe the silly stick and ball games use a different moral standard; that's their business. NASCAR chooses to be a "FAMILY" sport and the oithers mostly play to the adult world. If ya don't like the way NASCAR rules, go watch a stick and ball thing. And perhaps the networks have a lot of extra $$$ in their pockets from those events that they can allow some profanity????? :cuckoo:

I curse now and then but not near as much as I used to and it isn't something that I am proud of :( . I never curse in front of children and my elders......if there are any that are "elder" than me. :P
 
The 5 second delay should get the networks off the hook with the FCC. Then NASCAR has to justify the points deduction all over again should someone "slip up". A money fine is definitely in order..........even with a delay in broadcasts. But a points deduction is way overboard. Fine 'em the fine the FCC delves out to broadcasters and give it to the broadcasters..........but don't take points.
 
If your gonna have a 5 second delay. Then it would be beeped out before it went over the air ways. Then I don't see any reason to give a fine or point deduction. But that is just my 2 cents. :cheers:

Well Nascar is trying to compete with the biggest one, NFL.
 
The stick and ball thing is not my thing. And I really don't have much of a problem with the way NASCAR "rules". What I do have a problem with is all the controversy that comes up with almost every NASCAR "ruling". I happen to think a points reduction for a rules violation that has absolutely nothing to do with racing is way out of bounds........but NASCAR thinks otherwise. I can live with it but wonder why all the junk has to be brought up about past "rulings", consistency, favoritism, conspiracies, and other utter nonsense that almost always comes up!! Fine 'em.............like the stick and ball guys do. Don't take points or otherwise interfere with their championships. Suspend them, or kick them out if the infraction warrants it........but don't take points. Cheating is cheating and warrants points taken away. Speaking is something else........slam 'em with huge monetary fines to get their attention. If that don't work, then it's time to think about booting 'em from competition all together. But, like I said, I can live with it.......I don't like it but, hey, that's only one thing and there sure are more than one thing that makes me like NASCAR racing.

Now I ask you. Did the most recent incident (and the underlaying point of this thread) really warrant a boot from the series? I don't think so........so why the CS decision to take points? 10 grand............make a 100 grand. If that don't work, then make it 500 grand. That would get the attention of even Jr or Jeff!!

I think the 25 points got their attention quite well. They were warned early and often.

I think the 25 for something off the track is every bit as fair as a first to ninth place arbitrary decision based on a part that had not one thing to do with performance. That one cost someone a championship. I hope this one does too. Then some of y'all might see how the last 14 years have felt. Then I can sit back and call names and talk about sour grapes and taking your lumps too.

I hope he loses it by either one point or by 24 points. It'll be hilarious. I'll start a notebook comparing statements about 1990 with statements about 2004 from the same people. That would be some interesting reading.

"There are plenty enough races to make up the 25 points. If you are good enough to be Champion, you'll do it. If not, don't cheat and get caught."
 
If JR. was to lose it by 24 or less points. Read these forums would be better than reading a war novel. :lol:
