I found this pic and don't remember seeing it happen. Does anyone know when this occured and who the driver was? Hope everyone came out of this ok. Looks like they took a ride they were not prepared for!

Looks like something that happened maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Don't know who the airborne car is driven by but the 10 Tide ride was probably Ricky Rudd, the 28 probably Kenny Irwin, the 6 Mark Martin and I see the 24 there in the mess too. My guess is Talladega, late 90's. Don't remember anyone being seriously hurt.

Is this were Rickey Carven got his bad concussion? I think I heard him talk of it before. Can't believe someone wasn't hurt! Thanks for the info.

Isn't this fun...I say Craven, Lappy says Grissom. Well, one of us is right and I think I am, but I do remember this wreck. DEW, my guess is it's Ernie Irvan in the 28. Oh boy, we've got a good one going here. :)

Lappy, you could be thinking of when Steve had that bad one at Atlanta, or am I wrong about that one too? Hmmmmm, we need some help here. :)

Looks like a high banked super speedway........my guess is Talladega.

Just went on a little search and found it! It was Ricky and it was Dega! Don't know the year but I think it said 97. Thanks for all the help, maybe I'll find another one of us to discuss.

spring 96 at talledega, craven in the upside down 41 and went right over the top of gordon. you can see the 4 on the top of gordons 24 just behind.
I remember it well.

Didn't that happen because his teamate Jeff Gordon hit Mark Martin going into the turn?

Yeh they got all tangled up and Craven ended up getting the raw deal. it was the spring of 96 i beleive, just another testament to restrictor plate racing and how good it is.........NOT!

That was the spring at Talladega in 1996,that wreck was in turns 1 and 2, there was a 1 hour red flag to repair the fence. Sterling Marlin won that race in the 4 Kodak Film Chevrolet. I was sitting in the tower at the start of pit road and the only thing I could see was the bright Dupont colors on Gordons car and the Texaco Star on Ernie Irvans car.

Tallagega spring race of 1997 was run caution free and won by Mark Martin. That race still holds the record for the fastest 500 mile stockcar race in history. We camped out that year in the rain, the race was canceled for that Sunday and rescheduled for the following Monday and as the cars were on the track making their pace laps a shower hit and the race was canceled. the race was rescheduled for the Saturday brfore Mothers Day and ran caution free.

yeah Petty Fan, that was one of the best races I have ever been to. A little over 2 1/2 hours to race 500 miles with an average speed of 188 mph. Talladega used to have some awesome races before the dreaded aero push.

Bowtie is 100% right. It was 1996, the way i can tell is because of marks car, he ran the paint scheme only one year and it was 1996. The 28 car was Ernie and noit Kenny, When Kenny came into cup he ran a Tarrus and those are t-birds in that wreck

And just to confirm, the correct answer is the 1996 Spring race at Talladega. It was the first of two career-threatening concussions that Ricky Craven has recieved in his career.

The wreck started when a pack of cars about 4 wide went into the turn and Mark Martin was caught on the bottom. When his car slid up the track, havoc followed.

yup Iremember watching that race scared the crap out of me I thought for sure that car was going over the fence:(

Another given testament to the safety gear for sure.I felt a strong empty feeling when this wreck happened.:(

Dude if you don't like nascar stay on your fourms in the irl and indy section and quit talking crap about nascar

But talking crap about nascar on a nascar fourm is like going to a Jimmie Spencer fourm and telling his 4 or 5 fans(relitives) that he is actually good lol j/k couldent help it

Jeff Gordon had an DNF on April 28th,1996 at Talladega track, due to a crash, perhaps this is the accident?;)It was after He'd completed 141 laps!
