Does NASCAR still check horsepower?

I know they used to take the top few cars and dyno them to try to equalize the horsepower.
Do they even check anymore?
 
I remember that they used to grab some cars after the Michigan race years gone by. For dyno testing. I don't remember them actually trying to equalize anything though.
 
This is something we haven't heard about in a really long time. Especially since they. Went with less power and roller cams. Hendrick doesn't look as fast on the big tracks I wonder if they are down on power
 
Last time I heard of Nascar doing it was in the trucks years ago. One team was found to have 40 H.P. more than everybody else. So simple to check that. Doesn't make any sense to me to routinely tear cars apart every week down to nuts and bolts and not run them across a dyno first. If they are going to check the cars, check them. Almost all of the teams have wind tunnels. Nascar could use one of theirs to routinely check aero numbers also. Chevy has been using the same body for like 10, 12 years. Both Ford and Chevy have used the same body with the new car. Toyota has had two bodies in three years. Chevy is coming out with the new car next year so who knows the new car might be faster. IMSA has an aggressive balance of performance system that they use. I don't know if it would work with oval cars, but it is pretty simple using weight and smaller fuel cell sizes.

Pretty obvious he was down on power when the 18 blew by him....until the 2 doored him that is....then, the douchebags on NASCAR Radio said that they had never seen a pass there--said that it surprised Kez. No ****. That's what makes Kyle Busch special. I heard Chocolate Myers say at least four times this morning, "I don't have anything against Kyle Busch." Means that he is trying to justifying something--like Kez being an idiot.

The pass was risky .... sometimes that wins races. I would rather Kyle wreck than to follow Brad around all day. Not all that long ago when Kyle blew 3 engines in as many races ........... somebody has been working hard on those engines, and making progress

My take on HP is this, if the engine is within the written engine spec in all areas and you can get 40 to 80 more HP, so be it, let the other guys catch up. JMHO.



And catch up they will !!! but will it be in time to make a difference ?
 
I love the people on this board that scream every time NASCAR makes a rules change to equalize the competition, but now that Toyota APPEARS to have a horsepower advantage, people are wondering if NASCAR is checking horsepower or not. I guess it depends on if the drive with the advantage is the one that you root for?
 
I like the ones that are powerful and fuel efficient. Waiting on Brad's bitch about that too....
Damn I love me some Japanese engines.
 
I don't understand what is your point, but looking at the photos and reading the article solved the riddle for me. It isn't cheating, but old school bending the rules grey area.
 
I guess nobody has studied the pictures in the nose article and figured out how Toyota got their advantage and wanted to hazard a guess?

here are the three images of the three front end revisions Toyota has made. Top one is similar to the Chevys and the Fords currently in cup. The front end in the middle is the first front end Toyota used for their new car. Notice the smooth transitions where the
hood joins the fenders and the roundness of the fenders themselves. Probably had really good wind tunnel numbers. Now lets look at number three. Notice the difference in the surfaces that are noted #1 compared to the car above?

Both the hood sides are raised and angled with a fairly sharp angle. Now look at the left side #1. Another sharp angle on the fender instead of the smooth fender in the middle photo. What do you think will happen to air running into those angles going close to two hundred miles an hour? Those two surfaces will not only create downforce but as the car rotates in the corner, the right side of the car with those two angled surfaces will create both side force for turning and down force at high speed.

Example #2 the angled hood surface of #1 continues around the front of the car creating a mini spoiler in reverse creating downforce. So in summation, examples #1 creates both side force and down force for cutting thru the corners and example #2 the angled hood front creates downforce to keep the tires glued to the track. Now for people looking for grey area here it is. None of these latest changes are going to show up in a front on high speed blowing wind tunnel. In fact, I would guess that Toyota's wind tunnel numbers are probably worse than Ford or Chevy because of the drag created by those angled surfaces compared to the super smooth surfaces of the other two brands. But it races very well in the real world and will our corner the devil.

Chalk it up to late night posting, I totally misread that as 4 nose in three years, not 3-n-4
 
These nascar engines are not Japanese engines so.....these are California nascar trd engines
Yeah, I know that, my comment was not aimed at the engines that Toyota builds for NASCAR.

As in overall, I love Japanese engines ( outside of NASCAR)
