Interesting read.....

Kyle Larson has heard the arguments from those who believe the participation of Sprint Cup Series regulars in the Nationwide Series should be curtailed. He hopes it never happens.

"I would be disappointed if they ever did that. I don't see them ever doing it," he said. "I think the Nationwide regulars like Cup guys running with them. I know I do. I consider myself still young, I guess, in racing stock cars. Whenever I'm out there with guys like Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, I can see them in front of me, I'm learning a lot from them. I like it. I think it's good for the development side of the young drivers, because it is a development series for those kids. I think it's a good thing for NASCAR to have the Cup guys in there, because it's just going to make their series more competitive when those young guys move up."

He's been in cup for four races and already holding the party line. He's a quick study.

I'm a big fan of his but I'm really tired of hearing about him when has little substance. At least win a nationwide race

Kyle racing for his own NW proved where the real problem is, cup light organizations. I say give them one less set of tires for race day, 1 less crewman over the wall, and they start from the back if they use a cup driver.

They can start Kyle from the back, he will still win. The first time I seen him race he drove to the front twice from the rear of the pack and won the race. I think you have a good idea there though, just stick them in the back and let whatever happens happen

Little substance, really? lol

It's not very often you see someone with so little NW/Cup experience racing competitively in the top 5/10 in a Cup race.

This kid is the real deal.

I agree with starting them at the back because that way as they move towards the front the other drivers can watch their lines and learn a lot more from them then if they just start at the front and stay there. There's no doubt in my mind that the cup guys would still end up at the front before the end of the race but at least they would have to work a little harder and the younger drivers would learn a little more. Plus, i think it would be a little more exciting for the fans.

I'm mainly talking on the Nationwide side. He has almost 40 starts and no wins, a driver of his caliber should have a couple by now. On the cup side I have no expectation of him winning a race, but he should be able to win ROY

That's actually one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. Forget about the tires and crewman lets not take away those, but make the Cup drivers start from the rear as if the team made a driver change. This could make for some great racing.

At 1 short track. Let's see how he handles Fontana & that should give us an idea on how his 1.5 mile program is

The cup guys would be back to the front shortly after the first restart, but we would see a little bit of racing. Not having a fresh set of tires for the end of the race is what would really make it interesting. The cup light teams also have the best pit crews, so having the rear tire changer carry his tires would even things out. If a cup lite team thinks all this is too hard, don't use a cup regular to drive the car.

When Kyle wasn't running a car prepared by a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team, he couldn't find his way to Victory Lane with a GPS in spite of everyone telling us he could win on a bicycle. He gets back in a car prepared by his Cup team and it's the Kyle Busch Show.

They should do away with the Owner's Championship in Nationwide. That might prevent deals where a Nationwide regular is booted out of a ride in the final months of the season so a Cup driver can try to win the Owner's Championship for a Cup team.

Ultimately though, the biggest fix for that series that would take away all the problems and even things out is that they need more standalone races. If the Cup Series is in New Hampshire and practice and qualifying is all on Saturday afternoon (the way it should be) and the Nationwide Series is racing at Irwindale on Saturday night, problem's taken care of. Sure, the Cup drivers might try to fly out to Irwindale but, at that point, it's coming at a steep cost for them.

tv guys..even nbc...wouldn't like that. production costs for 2 tracks.

Cup guys now and then I don't have a problem with. It's the guys that keep running the full series in Cup team owned cars I have a problem with. And it's the owners putting the Cup guys in cars over a NNS driver just for the points.

I think the Cup guys race NW to gauge the track condition for the Cup event. Running a race on Sat. is a long practice season where changes in the track over a longer period of time. They say the cars are different but any good driver can ascertain how the track condition will translate to the Cup car. Plus they get an extra paycheck during the weekend (but I doubt that is a reason).

I do think having some Cup drivers in NW is good, they set a level of performance the up-and-comers can measure their skills. I think too many Cup drivers dilutes the series. I congratulate drivers that start NW teams because they are investing in the future of the sport either as a future Cup owner or developing drivers.

Kinda. Even though the cars act extremely different. Think of driving a go kart for a few hours then hopping into a vette

I get the feeling you are ignoring the rest (less tires and crewman) because it would be too tough on your boy Kyle.

If they stop racing in Nationwide , it will give them more Saturdays to come out to our local short tracks and race with the locals . It's a win ,win for everyone . Locals get to race with their heros , track promotors get record crowds and fans get to see Nascar stars . Great.

There's some benefit to Cup drivers in Nationwide but at what point is the benefit gone? The mid-2000s were dark times for the series and they still haven't rebounded.

2012 was great. The series was improving. Then Kyle Busch went back with the Sprint Cup Superteam and single handedly destroyed the series.

Let me guess 'THATSWHYWEDIDTHAT', all caps.
Yeah, I follow Brian on Twitter, or is it Twitt? Anyhow, he posted a selfie from the back of his limo. He had his access code written in crayon on a sticky note stuck to the inside window just over his right shoulder. I tried it when I entered the site and it got me right in with full access. With the full access code entered it entitled me to a free case of scotch. I think they really thought it was Brian browsing the site. Anyhow, here's to ya!

He came close to winning multiple times that season, he just had bad luck. He ran out of fuel leading on the final turn at kansas and had countless bad pit stops, and engine failures. But he still finished in the top 5 every week and was much more competitive then kligerman was in the car.

Kurt Busch was able to win in that car. Fact is, when he was in his own car and didn't have a grotesque advantage, he was in the same league as everyone else. He goes back to a Cup superteam in the series and he's suddenly winning every race again.

YEP.

Less tires could present a safety issue, I wouldnt want "my boy Kyle" injuring himself or someone else because of a tire failure. Lets not forget that Kyle isnt the only cupper in Nationwide though, meaning there could be up to ten or more cars in a race with compromised tires. Blindfolding him might be a better way to make sure he never wins again :p
