I hate the forcast, for the second year in a row we look like we get screwed with tvs "we are ok with losing one or two races to make the west coast happy."

Nascar has been racing on the left coast since the early 50's. Dover didn't come about until the late 60's almost 20 years later.
 
I really like this track. It isn't an egg shape like Darlington but I think of it in similar terms for being a technical track that is difficult. The narrow straights are also unforgiving if someone spins in front of you it is almost impossibile to avoid them or to not get collected by the cluster of cars behind you.

I am sure it is some of the toughest 400 miles to race on the schedule. But I still wish they still ran 500 laps to grind it out to more of a survival of the fittest and most fortunate.
The high banks and concrete is a little like Bristol but it is very unique, its own monster.

I prefer two races a year at Dover as well. I haven't really thought about the East versus West track dates thing, but I would prefer to see one of the 1.5 tracks giving up a 2nd date and keeping two dates at Dover.

But my opinion isn't money, they will do what makes the most $en$e.
 
I'm mostly just complaining about 3 pm starts at a track with no lights at a time of year with a lot of rain. I know they don't care but I got the short end of the stick last year because of it.

I've always thought this was a driver's track. I love the banking it reminds me of Bristol, you always had to manage tires here. Cool place, still wish it had 2 races.

It really does have the most unique turns, no other track do you really drop down into the banking. I did the Rusty Wallace experience there and it is very noticeable
 
Being on the west coast I always preferred the earlier start times. 9am would be great. Then I've got the rest of the day to do whatever. But I also like to get up really early and watch Formula 1. We all have our own agenda.
 
If we run Sunday it could be stop and go, hard forcast to read, earlier seems better than later.

Storyline – Dover: The ever-changing track surface: The old adage is that a leopard can’t change its spots. The concrete track surface at Dover Motor Speedway is, therefore, very un-leopard-like because it changes after the start of a race and continues to do so all race long. The white surface quickly turns black in the racing grooves as rubber gets laid down on the concrete. Then, under caution periods as the track cools, the still hot tires pick up much of the rubber, turning the track back white. And so it continues all race long. “Something at Dover that teams deal with and fans will notice is how the track changes over the course of the race,” said Greg Stucker, Goodyear’s director of racing. “For us at Goodyear, laying rubber on the concrete track surface is an important factor in what tread compounds we bring to Dover. Under green flag conditions, you will see the track turn from white to black as the cars lay rubber on the concrete surface. In turn, under cautions, the tires will pick some of that rubber off the track as it cools from the cars not being at full speed. When we return to racing, the track quickly takes on rubber again. Keeping up with those transitions is an important part of a team’s race strategy.”

Notes – Cup teams return to Dover on 2022 tire set-up:
Being on 18-inch bead diameter tires, NASCAR Cup teams will run a different tire set-up than those in the Xfinity Series at Dover this weekend . . . this is the same combination of left- and right-side tires that Cup teams ran at Dover last season . . . Dover is the only track at which these teams will run either of these two Goodyear tire codes in 2023 . . . with this 18-inch tire, and its lower profile sidewall, NASCAR Cup cars will not run inner liners in any of their tires.
 
I shouldn't have watched that recorded Indy car race last night. I should have saved it for Sunday. I hope the golfers are somewhere dry.
 
The forecast has trended much worse over the past 48 hours. We'll see. GFS says find Noah and build the ark, Canadian says ok til 4pm-ish, and the Euro says the race gets in before the rain comes in Sunday night. Overall worse than earlier but not ready to call it yet. Still a lot of spread in the models given we're only 4 days out.

Won’t be able to go either Sunday or Monday unfortunately; going to try to go at least Saturday but even that’s up in the air.

Dover only having one weekend of racing now sucks for someone that lives a hour away
 
They say Dover is self cleaning track and the rain should run down the track but then again there is the river in the valley phenomom to complicate matters.

A one mile track should be able to quickly acheive a pleasant vortexmic state. But a Dover vortex cannot be verically formed overhead in the conventional sense. The high banks and position of the cars in the corners will result in some horizontal formations landing in the opposite corner. A car in turn one will be directing the created formation to turn three, and the enegy created by cars in turn three will be returning the energy to turn one. and so forth all around the track.

It will be okay until the field gets completly strung out all around the track. But once the pack has completly spread out there will be an infinite number of atmospheric collisions. Hopefully thy will not create any tornados as a result.
If we are lucky the resulting side-vortex will just shift to only ensuring that parking areas parallel with the track remain dry.

There is also the poor planning with thr overhead track bridge on the back stretch. Even if the track was flat and symmetrical the bridge would still disrupt all the wonderful vortex formations with a D-Spot (point G: creating a D-spot moment doesn't provide all of the goodness of another letter _-spot phenomenon).
 
Dover is a cool track but it’s a bit of clean air fest anymore. I’d say this track has the highest margin of victory routinely of any oval on the circuit
 
I think we will see a good race on Monday. Sunday it'll deluge at least an inch of rain and all the rubber will be washed off. Then Monday has temperatures in the mid 60s and sunshine. Assuming they start the race at 11am or noon it'll certainly be a game of race the racetrack with a track that'll be totally green but taking rubber and temperatures that'll rise considerably as it gets to the 3pm-4pm hour.
