Can she driver better than David? Maybe she should be taking turns in some start-n-park instead of him.

David Stremme hasn't raced at all since 2014. And he hadn't start-and-parked since 2012. Nobody start-and-parks anymore, at least not in Cup.

She is a racer that has won at the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway, one of a few highly esteemed wimmins to accomplish that feat.
And she obviously demonstrated enough talents to win the Mrs America contest.

She done dong good, and she should be able to accomplish so much more. Hopefully folks will not hate up on her for being so accomplished.

As a pro feminist I would be saddened to see folks ridicule her driving just because she is pretty too. My passion for justice demanded that I post her story.

Cause Ashley Stemme is a role model for girls, with a win at Charlotte. I am calling on of the other nobel men for solidarity to stand up for Ashley. Go Ashley!
 
S&P was dying anyway, but the 40 car field has essentially eliminated it.

Nobody start-and-parked in 2015 with 43 car fields. The only reason to cut fields was to further stifle competition by making it (even) harder to survive as an open team.

Meh, I don't care about how they look or their gender. I'm a DP fan and pull for her cause she catches a lot of **** and I've always rooted for the underdog. Hopefully, Ashley has thick skin, will get a shot at Cup,and will have a chance to be successful as well.
 
S&P 500 continues to thrive in xfinity. Penalties should be created and enforced.

Timmy Hill kept coming back out at Michigan last August even though his car was leaking oil like a wet napkin, right up until NASCAR itself had to tell him to pack it up. And the theoretical concern is/was that someone in those last few spots might one day find what they need (ie money) to build themselves up into a serious contender.

Cutting the field by 3 shoved approx $150K per week up the payment ladder. There are 4 spots available at every race for the people you're describing. That's enough, IMO. This is the pros.

Yeah, up toward people who don't need it. I think the field should be open to anyone who wants to try to crack it and can put together a fast enough car to make it. There's nowhere near as much room for that with the charter system and the smaller fields.
 
37-40 need it. The tire bill for a 1 car team this weekend is approx $18,000.

The field is open ... put a competitive effort together, have your cars inspected, pay for your annual licenses, file an entry and show up. After that, be fast. That's what racing is about. It's never been easy.

Let's overlook the S&P smart remark and concentrate on the primary question. To paraphrase Joey Logano, who wears the firesuit in that family?
 
I hadn't heard of her before today. Did she win on the 1.5-mile banked oval, or on the flat Legends track on the front stretch?

Guarantee it wasn't on the big track. Finish in the top 20 at any Cup race and I'll be impressed. Til then, good friggin luck.

The legends track, also the modified track, and were several HoF drivers competed.

Not really, there are 36 spots set aside for people who are willing to pay extra. And the richest of that group basically get to decide who stays and goes, and who gets to come in when someone goes. It's nothing like the world where a new Furniture Row entry could have co-existed alongside a microbudget entry from the likes of Premium or The Motorsports Group, with all of them having only to qualify fast enough and then maintain a high enough OP rank for a provisional when they can't. Now, if there are five highly competitive entries that can't get ahold of a charter, one of them could post the fifth-fastest time in the final round and end up getting sent home because the other four qualified faster. It's all the problems people complained about with the top 35 rule, only even more stratified because you can't lose a charter mid-season.

There is no free lunch in auto racing and its participants fully understand that. In fact, they revel in it. A perfect example of that will occur in Tulsa, Oklahoma next January. 300 + cars will show up to attempt the 24 car field in the A Main at The Chili Bowl. The essence of auto racing. Go fast or go home.

Nice to know you like woman of all hair colors:D.However, whenever It's possible you will take a dig at DP so I don't believe you posted this thread without that in mind. Again, I wish Ashley luck and if she ever makes it to the Cup level I will bet you a dollar she will thank DP for helping to make it happen.

The difference was that, theoretically at least, it could've been any one of about 37 different cars, only seven were completely locked into the show. The (theoretical) odds were far different than they are in a system where only five cars are in any danger of not making the race, when enough come to the track to endanger any entries at all. I don't want a free lunch. But for the 36 charter teams, that's exactly what they've got now. As has been noted elsewhere, it's likely none of them will be in any real danger until at least the 2018-19 offseason, and the big guns will never be in danger unless they make a monumentally stupid mistake with their drivers.

That's the exact point - racing IS a hard mistress, but the charters artificially make things harder by shutting the door unless you're willing to spend the millions necessary to get a charter on the rare occasions when one becomes available. And the RTA members are the ones who decide who gets the charters anyway, so they could bar someone just because they're afraid they might become competitive and displace one of them.

I don't think that the people who have it now should be granted protection from losing it. This is a sport - they should have to go out every year and prove that they deserve it. And, again, when was the last time an entry from Penske, Hendrick or Gibbs was in serious danger of missing even one race? Realistically, they didn't need any extra protection when the millions they've sunk into it already guarantee that they can make nearly every race in the year on speed, and the remaining one or two on owner points by persistently running up near the front.

Seems like a stretch too me, with only a few similarities. After all Ashley won this contest as well as a race at Charlotte, and seems to be actually happy with the results at the completion of an event.

I think we still have a declassified Danica thread somewhre on the board if needed.
