Green relased from RCR #30 ride: Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has ended the contract of Jeff Green as the driver for RCR's #30 AOL NASCAR Winston Cup program, effective immediately. "Our relationship was not where we had hoped it would be at this point so we decided to make this move now," said Richard Childress, president and CEO of Richard Childress Enterprises, Inc. "Jeff is a very good race car driver but sometimes change can be good for everyone involved. I'll always be grateful to him for what he accomplished for RCR in both the Winston Cup Series and the Busch Series." Green was the driver for the #30 America Online team since its inception for an eight-race schedule in 2001. He finished 17th in the 2002 NASCAR Winston Cup Series final point standings and is currently in 32nd place after the first 11 races this season. He earned two pole positions during his tenure at RCR, for this season's Daytona 500 and the August 2001 race at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. He also earned two NASCAR Busch Series victories for RCR's No. 21 team in 2002. A replacement driver will be announced at a later date.(RCR PR)(5-5-2003)

I hope this is not a reaction to what Jeff Did on Saturday night!! IMO Jeff is a Great driver. I think Richard should have maybe put hin on a warning or something, Its al little harsh punishment for speaking his mind!

I am glad to see this, Green should never have been given this ride. He's proven to be mediocre in the Winston Cup series.

As for the incident Saturday night, it was probably the"straw that broke the camels back".

Man, I didn't see this one coming at all! I thought he would have let Gordon go before Green. I wounder where he'll end up next year.

you deserve a
b3.gif
for that quote.

gordon has been a team player all along. i knew this was coming. gordon is 13th in points, harvick is 8th, green is 32nd, something definitely wrong there. remember, it was rcr's initial idea to put todd berrier with the 29, at the time berrier was with the 30 but green refused, so rc decided to switch the 29 and 31, and gordon was a team player and agreed when green wasnt. finally berrier left to 30 to go to the 29 and green still hasnt stepped up with beam.

well that ride was supposed to be the next big thing for childress, that was supposed to be harvicks ride until dales death, i dont think green ever really fir in at rcr, i see Richard getting a young guy for that ride, wouldnt it be something if kyle bush end up in that ride in a few years, or maybe Kasey Kahne, or Scott Riggs starting next year, those are good possibilities, but then again you got johnny sauter who drives for him already, but i dont like him at the cup level.

Green excelled in busch but never did anything in cup and this is what his 2nd or 3rd try....he was great in that nesquick car, but damn he'd win and still find somethin to complain about........I'd like to see Richard give hornaday a shot in that car until they find a younder guy to bring on up...

I wouldnt be surprised at all if RCR just closes up the 30 team and invests those resources in both the 29 and 31. Harvick is 8th in the points, Robby Gordon is 13th in points, with added resources they have a legitimate shot to finish in the top 10 in points.

AOL is in deep doodoo regarding their financial troubles and I am sure that they wouldnt mind taking a quarter panel on both cars at a lesser price. RCR started having problems once Dale died, but a lot can also be blamed on opening the 3rd team. With two teams RCR will return back to old form.

I think Hornaday would be a great fit for the third team, but closing it down for the rest of the season doesn't seem like a bad plan either. Casey Atwood or Hank Parker Jr should get a shot in there for a few races. Brendan Gaughan or Travis Kvapil might be good fits too.

Never was to excited about Green anyway. I think he will shut the team down. But I could be wrong. :bounce:

My inital thought was to put Hornady in the car, but since I have thought about it I don't know how likely that is. Hornady is similar to Green in that he has had good luck in Bush, but has been not too good in cup. My thought for Green is that he might take over the 01 until Jerry gets back.

Thats a shame for Jeff, but he wasn't getting the job done in the car. Hopefully he will find a ride in Busch. It will be interesting to see who Richard puts in the car.

Hornadays days with the 14 team shouldn't be held against him....no one can/has done anything in AJ's cars....if not hornaday....Mike wallace would be another good choice in my opinion...

Well Jeff didn't even make my list of the most hot and cold drivers...he is beyond cold!

I think Jeff has done a good job in the AOL car. He has not been a front runner alot but when he is he has a good shot at winning. Jeff is not the worst driver our there, Wasn't Jeff ahead of both Robby and Harvick alot last year in points and this year some as well? I don't think this was a fair dismissle

He got fired for going over to someone's pit?

Or did I miss something?

That is what I see Gollum.

I would say he could not shut his mouth Sunday or Monday, kinda like the Mayfield, Penske deal, sometimes owners get a gut full. Harvick didn't do it on purpose and he shouldn't have showed arse. :dual9mm:

I think Jason Lefler would be a good replacement, or Sarah Fisher.

The whole thing is just a shame and a good indicator of why RCR has lost the field.Harvick didn't INTENTIONALLY wreck Green, just a racing deal.Green being a little hot is the same thing.Just part of it.Green lost his head and ran his mouth, but Childress was way too quick to dismiss him,IMO.

It's time for NASCAR to look outside of the box for new talent; way too many out of work drivers who have won in both open wheel series and trans am series to put in a developement program car i.e. Alex Barron, Max Papis, Boris Said etc.....

Putting Harvick and Green together on the same team was a bad idea to begin with. I don't think Harvick purposely hit Green, but I think tension has been building up for awhile. Green "running his mouth" goes beyond this weekend. I think it's best for Green to get out of that situation, though I think Richard Childress' action seems a little bit too swift.

But that is your assesment from the outside looking in. I am sure what took place Sat night was a small tidbit of the friction Jeff Green had with RCR.

from bgnracing---
We are hearing that Ron Hornaday will take over as driver of the #30 AOL Richard Childress Racing Winston Cup car.

I would like to see Ron get another shot at the WC series. Wonder how they will hanlde teh BGN - WC schedule conflicts. It can be done, but might create a strain.

Ron should give the car a good chance. He's a pretty sharp racer, although occassionally rambunctious. He does give good feed back to the CC and understands the mechanics of the car real well.

And there is no one a driver would less like to see behind him on a restart than Ron.

Harvick did it a few years back!
Jayski also has Mike Skinner listed as a possible driver?? HE said that would make no sence which I agree

IMO Green has a bad attitude, kind of reminds me of Mike Skinner in a way. He doesn't seem to understand what RCR is all about, I think also this has been brewing like some else said , for way longer than we know.

 Smartest thing Childress has done since he hired
Earnhardt. I don't know why he hired Green to start with. I guess because of Greens Busch record. But he had a smart mouth then too. He could be the only car on the track, and wreck, and want to blame it on someone else. Way to go RC. :bounce:

Wouldn't make much sence to me to hire Skinner. It was just maybe 2 years ago that RCR gave Skinner the boot. Hornaday or Sauter would be a better choice. :D

Hornaday or Mike Wallace are my first 2 choices...(well behind steve ofcourse.... ;)...)

Just think of any driver that Kevin Harvick or Robby Gordon do not like, who would make for even worse team chemistry, and that will probably be the next driver.

Let's see. Greg Biffle could be a potential, but he's currently w/ Roush. Maybe Coy Gibbs, who Harvick spun in the truck race last year. Robby Gordon doesn't get along w/ anyone in the field, so...

you are ridiculous, dont claim stuff you dont know... actually biffle and robby are very good friends.

Yeah,I did read somewhere that Robby and Greg are best friends.Harvick and Biffle...now that is a different story!
