DW adresses the possible points change

And I STILL do NOT like NBC!!!(Nothing But Commercials)!!!!
If NASCASH does go to the 10 race playoff, I will find another
racing series that has some brains to watch.
Like F-1 and IRL maybe. NASCAR WILL loose a ton of fans if
this proposed system is implemented. Count on it!!!!!
If what I am hearing is true about Nextel wanting this change, then
NEXTEL had better get a life. Nextel wants to "copycat" NFL???????
Are they nutz???????
They only have a 10 year contract, and who's to say
if they will be able to meet the financial committment of those 10 years???
And what happens if they go belly up?????

BUT we all LOVE DW! [/b][/quote]
Not all of us. Not by a long shot. I'd rather hear Snoop Dog announce a race as DW.

Looks like Nextel is going do as much to destroy Nascar as Winston did to build it. 80 to 90% of the fans say don't do it. But looks like the fans don't matter to Nextel.

<<< I like Jerry Punch Too !!!! You have to Watch ESPN College Football to see him now a days!

Nextel will make changes to NASCAR >> And this change will Work >> Just Wait and See!! Competition is why Folks watch the Sport >> People don't watch Nascar to see Cars play Follow the Leader >> and Thats what the last 10 races normally bring us!

This change will be awesome and Next Year I will be saying "I Told Ya So" !!!

raj, I wouldn't bow my chest out too far. Some things have a way of growing a whole bunch of steam only to run into a brick wall and become just a puddle of water. I'm not saying that it won't happen, but if the powers that be are listening, this 10 race deal should just become a large puddle of water! ;)

Maj this crap will not work. By the end of the year the great majority of the fans will be letting Nascar and Nextel know it.

I agree, Gollum. But the real question is, will Nascar listen to the folks that make them all of their money????

I certainly hope not! I hope it's like someone else mentioned before, that maybe they are going to get the most out of the publicity with this "crap" and then just make some minor tweaks to the points allocation. One can only hope that is what actually transpires.

I agree about not wanting to watch cars follow the leader. However, I don't see any difference in the way anyone races the last 10 races. Everyone tried to say Kenseth was points racing, but finishing in the top 10 or even top 5 (don't recall how many he had) is not points racing. I suppose BLab was just following the leader at homestead. Do you really think Harvick and Johnson were just riding around? You never know what could happen.

Changing this to be more like football is rediculous. Nascar is not football. Nascar is still one of the biggest sports out there.

If this is like the NFL play offs. Then might as well do it like the play offs. You know what happens to teams that don't make it to the play offs. They go home. Then you might as well send the 11th place driver on back home cause he has no chance to get into the play offs( or the top 10. ) The hold idea just sucks.

I think "IF" NASCAR is stupied enough to do something like this you'll see a giant growth in popularity of ASA and ARCA. It's just the most rediculas thing I've ever heard proposed.

The only way that would work would be if the did 4 divisions around the country, and the top 10 in each then raced together for the championship those last 10 races.
How the heck would that work, they can't get enough sponsers for 43 cars where the heck would the money come from for 170 or more teams?
Just a totally absurd idea and I can't believe they would even think us fans are stupied enough to go for it.

Tony George would probably love it, it would sure help with increasing IRL's popularity too.

I could see ASA getting bigger real quick! Very competitive racing and the Leadership (New Owner of ASA) is outstanding. They are going to run at Lowes and also at Atlanta during the week of the Nascar events!

As far as ARCA; I don't think it will gain in Popularity >> Kimmel wins nearly every one of those Races and Championships >> and now that Kyle Busch is moving up to Busch >> I see Kimmel winning even more >> who wants to watch that!

You might be right Flyboy, I was just thinking "IF" this should happen you might see a lot of teams and drivers swith santions too.

Nascar is where the $$ is at! No one is going to switch to another series over something like this >> They will just fight that much harder to be in the top 10 with 10 races to go >> Thus >> making for great racing!

Oh Well >> Looks Like Nascar is going to implement this system >> and I can't wait to Say I told you so next year!!
NASCAR's lost then,as I'm sure that some fans will quit forking over $$$$$$$$$$$$ for tickets and mechandising after They've felt betrayed by NASCAR

got that right thunder, just hope if they do the 26-10 they leave the trucks a bush guys alone, hell the trucks are the best racin out there anyway

One thing about it. If Nascar screws the Cup people up. It will make the Busch and Trucks more popular. They will draw larger crouds.

I like their chassis. Their engine rules suck. Same applies to CART. Sealed "spec" engines are fine for IROC and other club events. Not for National championships.

Windsor:

The Spec Engine is what makes ASA racing so Good! I had the chance to go to a couple races this year. This is the best racing I have seen in a long time! With everyone having the same engine >> it keeps the competition real close >> with many different winners! The cost factor is very important too. Butch Miller ran the same engine for most of 2 complete seasons!

The Crate Motor idea is the wave of the future and smart as well! You can even send your motors to be overhauled for a relatively cheap price. I think this is the way to go!

I'm sure the racing is very close. But it removes engine from the engineering aspect of your car vs everybody elses car.

I just can't give serious consideration to that approach.

It keeps the Cost Down. Team Owners just don't have the cash to build race engines anymore. Its nice to see a top series attempt to make the racing less expensive! ASA had some lower budget teams win races in 2003!

That's exactly why it belongs in club racing. The engine is a very significant part of the race car. It's what makes things go. Building high end engines is more in reach now than any time in history. Just because a lot of folks over the years have failed to learn how and why they work so they could to do it for themselves and in turn save money, is no reason to reward their ignorance. A national series needs the best of the best, in all aspects of the car.

Some people watch a race to see high-tech enginneering in action. Others watch a race to see close competition, and love to see low-dollar teams win races. ASA has chosen to cater to the latter category, as has the ACT Dodge Tour late model series in northern New England (read the Feb. 2004 issue of Speedway Illustrated for more info). Both use variants of GM spec motors. ASA uses the 400hp version, ACT the 350hp version. Both series have used this approach with great success, in terms of car counts, racing quality, and crowd size. Crate engines work for some series, others are better off with the high-tech motors. You pays your money and you makes your choice.

Go check out an ASA race >> Its awesome Stuff!
LOL! The last ASA event I gave any attention was the year prior to the current engine rules. Same goes for CART.

I'll watch ANY race and enjoyed CART when JPM drove in the series. However, CART is gone.

Don't y'all think that if there were to be a change in the point system it should have been announced by now?

And others enjoy when the complete package is involved. I'm not saying there is no room for series using spec engine. I've thought a few time about getting involved with some of the SCCA club level spec racing. Looks very excitig to watch and I bet would be very exciting to participate in.

It's also not a matter of high tech engineering. Looking at CART, those dohc 4valve, pnuematic valve spring, turbo charged engines are very high tech. The thing is, everyoe has the "exact same" thing. No variation in philosophy from team to team or car to car. Aditionally, those engine guys are never pushing the envelope. Therefore, not learning, trying, inventing new stuff that will in some way or another, not only advance the sport as a whole, but not contribute to engineering technologies that historically migrate in one way or another to the production line.

Without the teams being responsible for the entire race car (engine and all), it's just an over glorified club event.

PS. I trick I've heard the more wealthy teams have pulled in these types of series, is to buy/lease many engines (I've heard as much as 10). Dyno them all, keep the best and unload the weak ones on the weaker teams.

My 2 cents.. This is a stupid idea.locking in the top ten. Give the winner 10 or 15 extra points. As far as a spec engine....if i go to a "lesser"(and i don't mean that as a cut) series, its ok to have a spec engine. They don't have the cash. If i watch a "winston" (I'll forever call it this) cup race i expect to see the best out there. No holds barred racing. If you can't run with the big boys stay on the porch.

Juan Pablo drove when the engine rules were open. I watched then too. I don't know what to think of the CART debacle. They had such great potential....that a a buck will get me a cup of coffee...frustrating.

...LOL! The points!!!...those bozos!
