Editorial: Head and neck restraints need to be mandated everywhere

While I understand that all race car drivers need every piece of safety equipment that they can get their hands on , we are not mandated to use any of them while we are out on the highway . We have cars coming toward us at high rates of speed , some being driven by complete idiots . The closing rate between two vehicles is well over 100mph .

and we have trees on the side of our roads, no roll cages, no helmets, semi truck drivers that are exhausted from being on the roads for days, and only a 1 point harness on our seats. It gets scary now huh

Yep agreed, if you can't afford to do it safely you shouldn't be doing it, like i said previously in this thread, it is a no brainer.
But it is a free country

We can be pretty certain about what other people should do , but very unclear about doing it ourselves .I have to wear a helmet on a bicycle but not in a car . I have to wear a seat belt in my car , but not on a bus or a train . We all know we should be wearing a hans device in our cars , but none of us want to lay out that kind of money . Yet we can criticize that poor girls family . Strange stuff .

Jeff Burton:
A Hans is great but without the proper full containment seat and restraints is does not provide enough protection. Must have it all!

Is this a photo of the drivers area of her car? If so that looks like a old school aluminum seat and not a full containment seat that Burton says needs to be used in conjunction with a Hans.

So many things stand out looking at the photo. The 4 point cage, the oversized seat, no headrests and a stock steering column. Makes curious as to also the mounting of the belts. Unfortunately, at the end of the day and this thread a 15 year old girl was lost. I just hope tracks and parents take a good look at these type of cars and make the decision to keep kids out of them. Racing is a dangerous sport, we all know that, but there's no reason to put cars like this on a track. IMO.

I agree with everything you said. If, and I repeat if, that's her car it wouldn't have made it on any track I know of here. The stock steering column just screams at me, complete with direction signal and wiper control stalks.
Where are the belts, more importantly where did the belts mount? The window net and where it would attach appear MIA.
This may very well be a entry level basically stock 4 banger class. But that is no excuse for allowing that cage and seat. IMHO, YMMV

Did you notice the shifter?

Yeah, it appears to be a automatic which I don't recall any local track allowing.
