Eldora - Race Day

Gotta give Dillion credit though - started 19th - got to the front through a bunch of 4-wide traffic - then restarted well.

AWESOME RACE !!!!!

Great example of what I've heard Kenny Wallace say on Raceday, that slowing the cars down would make racing better. (I know it isn't his idea, just think he was saying it last time I heard). Track speed records only matter during qualifying, anyway.

Personally...I think they were a little worried about how the surface would hold up with this many heavy machines...therefore the 60-50-40....I think they could stretch it out next time and make it a little bit longer race.

But what a great Wednesday of race watching :D

They weren't the fastest, most graceful.. Passing was tough, but I've seen worse races from dirt-exclusive cars.

Hope Johali, DPK and families enjoyed it live and in person, will be fun to hear some stories.

Yeah, for sure. I spent 6 months on a contract job in Dayton about 15 years ago and found a few nice dirt tracks in the (fairly close) area. At the time Eldora had the best track - but not the best facility for just a local program by any means.

They did have the "King's Royal" and a couple other big races but I didn't get to see them.

I bet Tony has made improvements

I was pulling for a N'wide driver. Guilty as charged.

The track was prepped perfectly. I kept hearing people talking about it being too hard and stuff. I've been to races where the track was dry and dusty and the races were usually a ****show.

To paraphrase Andy, the couple of people on here being negative about tonight's race should "Go Eat A Freakin Taco". I am still amazed and without words, I watched some of the best racing I have seen in years, I had to remind myself to breathe. I watched one of the best wheelmen I have seen in a while work his way from 19th to first and win the race. I have to drive an 8 hour leg tomorrow so I will post pictures and comments when I can tomorrow and yes we had a damn blast, not just tonight but the entire experience and My bold prediction for next year is there will be two dirt races. Nascar will listen to the fans about this one.

Nascar drivers put it on the dirt track ringers. I hope that works to gain some respect for the caliber of drivers there is in Nascar. Many had hardly any experience on dirt and they beat some of the best dirt car drivers there are. Give them a piece, put them on a track and they will beat ya.

Is Danica included in that caliber? ;)

It wouldn't have happened without Steve O'Donnell. I'd say the successes of this race and Rockingham last year will propel NASCAR to more short tracks and even dirt tracks in the future. Say what you want about NASCAR, Steve O'Donnell is one guy who gets it.

I loved the race and I love the trucks but Nascar on Dirt needs to eventually have all three series, cup included.

Doubt it will happen but it should within 10 years.

And had you been awake when I stopped by your camper, you would have met one of the biggest racing fans on the face of this earth. :D

What a great race. The faster cars were able to pass. What a concept! I would love to see nascar come out with a lighter dirt spec frame with much less power so they can loosen the track a little and get more lanes and guys can work a real cushion. Then build a dirt track inside every crappy 1.5 and let it rip.

Watching Larson dive down on turn exit and stretch it out before sliding up reminded me of JG at Bristol. That kid has talent, but Austin was better last night and had a more impressive run for sure.

The downside of this is every other race is going to totally suck. ;)

Well, if you're THAT big, Johali probably ran for his gun and bag tag when you saw you coming.

I hope NASCAR is paying attention, because this is was race fans want! They want three wide, four wide, they want a battle for the lead throughout the entire race! The fans want slide job, they want rubbin' & grinding, they want to see who's the better driver and who's the better team.

Basically they want some good ol' fashion dirt track racing! So get rid of the 1.5 cookie cutter tracks and put dirt tracks in their place!

Are dirt races usually this good? If so, I've been missing out.

Go check out the video from Tuesday's late model race at Eldora and you can see what it's all about. Wednesday's was bad because the track was locked down for the late models, so don't look at it.

I didn't get home till late so I was playing catch up (and didn't want any spoliers) but this was a fun thread to read. I hope you now understand why I am such a huge dirt racing fanatic, and I hope you all follow this up with at least one visit to a local dirt track somewhere. I admit, I was very skeptical going in, but came away just like everyone else here. WOW!

Second biggest, I laid down for 25 minutes and number two comes by to pay homage. :p

There was a lot of debris just out of the groove that they did not throw a flag for which is a good thing.
